Polly Pretlow Obituary

NEWPORT NEWS - Mrs. Polly Spratley Pretlow went home to be with the Lord on Sept. 6, 2008.
Born in Surry County on May 11, 1910, her parents were Louis and Eliza Spratley. In 1929 she married Waverly Pretlow; they made their home in Newport News. To this marriage, one child was born. She was a housewife, but did spend a number of years as a nurse's aid at Riverside Hospital. She enjoyed cooking and spoiling her two grandsons.
Mrs. Pretlow was an avid worker at Second Baptist Church East End: deaconess, usher, Nurse's Club, Missionary Society, Women's Auxiliary etc. and a member of Eastern Star and The Silver Bells.
Preceding her in death were her husband; sisters, Leola Terry, Elsie Delk, Pauline Epps (her twin) and Gertrude Liverman; also son, Herbert Pretlow, and grandson Geoffrey Pretlow.
Cherishing her memory are Nathanael Pretlow (grandson), Julia Swift (niece), Marian Rutledge (great niece), Jeannette Pretlow (daughter-in-law), several nephews, many cousins and friends.
Viewing will be held from noon to 6 p.m. Wednesday., Sept. 10, at the funeral home and two hours prior to the service Thursday at the church. The Celebration of Life is at noon Thursday, Sept. 11, at Second Baptist Church, East End (3307 Chestnut Ave.) with Rev. Miller, officiating. Entombment will follow at Hampton Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to her church. Services of Celebration and Remembrance are entrusted to the M.E. Fisher Funeral Home, 2117 Madison Ave, NN 757-245-3302. View and post condolences on our online guestbook at dailypress.com/guestbooks.

She was such a caring person. She was my neighbor for years on 31st. I often ate at her home, when my mother was ill and couldn't do for me. God Bless her with a sweet and gentle heart. Love you Mrs Pretlow

To: The Pretlow Family

May the Lord Jesus Christ give you comfort in the passing of your loved one. Mrs. Pretlow was as sweet a lady as they come. We worshipped together at Second Baptist when ever I would be in town.

Lovingly

Mr. Audwin N. Chandler Vaughn
