Richard Diehl Obituary

YORKTOWN - Richard E. Diehl, 77, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 16, 2008.
Richard was a native of Pennsylvania and has been a Peninsula resident for over 60 years. He graduated from Morrison High School in 1949. He retired from Civil Service in April 1983, after 34 years of service, and was employed with Northrop Grumman from 1984 from 1996. He also worked part time at Grafton Texaco, and Grafton Amoco Service Stations. He was an avid hunter and fisherman.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Marie and Emerson Diehl; a grandson, Richard Allen Diehl; and sisters, Evelyn Stanley and Polly Hardister.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Ruby Diehl; daughters, Judy Brady and her husband, Richard Bryant, of Jamaica, Va., Denise Funk and her husband, Dusty, of Jamaica, Va., Jody Diehl and Alan Hays of Newport News, Va.; sons, Richard E. Diehl Jr. and his wife, Ann, of Virginia Beach; Ronald Diehl and his wife, Sharon, of Newport News; brothers, Johnny Diehl of Eagle Rock, Va., Stoney Diehl of Williamsburg, George Diehl, Donald Diehl and Mark Diehl of Altoona, Pa. He is also survived by his sisters, Eleanor Smith of Saluda, Va., Margaret Wilson of Dare, Louella Owens of Ark, Ruth Smith of Maryland, Jeannie Fleming of Clintwood, Va., and Ellie Mansfield of South Carolina; nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
The family would like to thank the staff of Riverside Hospice, especially Mary Evans and Mary Shephard.
A funeral liturgy will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 19, in the chapel of Amory Funeral Home, Grafton. Interment will follow in Parklawn Memorial Park. I knew Pop Pop through my mother (Deborah) and memories of him when I was a teenager. I am so very sorry for the loss of him in everyone’s life. I know that he was truly loved and he will be truly missed by all. May God Bless the entire Diehl family in this time of need.
