Abraham Ellis Obituary
HAMPTON - Abraham (Abe/Abie) Ellis, 89, passed away Friday, Sept. 26, 2008, in Hampton, Va., at the home of Joan and Ed Henderson, where he received the very best care for the past three years. He couldn't have been more blessed.
He was born March 2, 1919, in Manhattan, N.Y., to Sadie Schweiner Ellis and William Ellis. Abe was the youngest of four children and never married.
Abe lived in the Bronx, where he attended local schools and worked at the World Trade Center for the State of New York Dept. of Civil Service, retiring in 1977. He moved to Hampton in the early 1980's and was fortunate to have the kindness of wonderful neighbors, Barbara Bosko, Junior Strop and Marge Powers.
Abe was an avid gardener, reader, radio-listener, and TV sports enthusiast, especially tennis, hockey, basketball and baseball.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Fred Ellis; a sister, Josephine Rivero; and another sister at a very young age.
He is survived by his nieces and nephews, Patricia Ann Jenkins of Mobile, Ala., Linda Nemith of Roebling, N.J., Louis Rivero of Bronx, N.Y., and William Rivero of New Milford, Conn.
Since a CVA in 2004, Abe had been blessed with several loving caregivers, including Joan and Ed Henderson, Charles Mason, Zeferina Douglas, Sharita Brooks, Marge Powers, Debbie Carter, Alfreda Carter, Doria St.Pierre, Joanne Brown, Nikki Mabelot, Ladonya Morgan, Cheri Shaw, Mary Barnes, Renee Jacobs, Delores Holmes, Viola Hanks, Kathy Blow, and Crystal Jones.
A very special thank you for the many years of friendship and good care given by Dr. Henry B. Carmines, MD and Benita St.Pierre, RN, who was like a granddaughter to Abe since 1988. He was dearly loved and will surely be missed.
A memorial service will be held at a later date at Parklawn Memorial Park, Hampton, Va.
