Vicki Panora Obituary

HAMPTON - Vicki L. Panora, 53, died Sunday, Sept. 28, 2008 of Multiple Myeloma.
Vicki was born on Nov. 29, 1954, at Langley AFB. She graduated from Hampton High School class of '72 and subsequently earned an Associates Degree and a Bachelors Degree.
In Sept. 2007, Vicki was medically retired from Civil Service after 32 years of service with the U.S. Air Force. She started her career as a GS 4 at Langley AFB, and upon retirement, had attained the grade of GS 13 assigned at the Pentagon.
Vicki was a loving and fun filled woman who brought excitement to, and was excited about, everything she did, be that work or play. She lived life to the fullest and was a joy to be around. A friend from England recently wrote, " You have a wonderful way with people and a lovely, warm, good-hearted, and generous nature." That was our Vicki, she is much loved and will be sorely missed by her family and large circle of friends.
Vicki was preceded in death by her father, Theodor W. Dobbs.
She is survived by her daughter, Stephanie M. Panora; her parents, Patricia and Frank Capone; her sister, Kim Levi and husband, Michael; brother, Donald Dobbs; brother, Michael Capone and wife, Sharon; several nieces and nephews.
Vicki's family wishes to express our heartfelt thanks to the staff of Virginia Oncology Associates for the care, support, and love extended to Vicki and each of us during her sickness. Special thanks to Dr. John Paschold, RN Susan Hubbard, RN Gloria West, and Assistant Nurse Diane Burke.
Visitation will be from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 1, at the Peninsula Funeral Home, Newport News, Va. Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 2, at the Funeral Home, followed by interment at Peninsula Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Vicki's name to the American Cancer Society. View and post condolences on our online guestbook at dailypress.com/guestbooks.

I am saddened to hear about Vicki. I worked with her at Langley Air Force Base HQ TAC/LGSW from 1979 through 1982.. I retired from Langley in 1987 and moved to Los Angeles where I have remained since retirement.

Vicki was a joy to be around, she always had a smile and a great attitude about life. Her office was just around the corner from where I worked. So we saw each other on a daily basis.

I share your grief and grieve with you on her passing. May the strength and love of the Lord comfort your family.

Warm Regards,

My Best Buddy, Frank, and family: The first time I saw Vicki, she was just a few days old and adorable. Then when you returned from Alaska with Vicki, Kim, and Donny, and my Phyllis and Vivian were close to the same ages, they all became great friends like we have been since even before our teenage years. Then along came your Michael and 5 months later came my Trisha and they became fast friends. All of our kids made our wonderful friendship even more perfect. I love all of them and always considered them "partly mine". I have such wonderful memories of Vicki, so sweet and so full of herself. It's very difficult for me being on the west coast and not able to be with all of you right now. My thoughts and prayers are with you, and you know that I share deeply in your/our loss.

I retired from Langley 12 years ago and have not seen Vicki since then, but she was always a delight and she would come into my office and we would talk...and I often encouraged her to finish that education .... and she seem to do it so effortlessly....what she accomplished in the past 12 years was extraordinary as was she! I have several "treasures" she gave me over the years and now I shall treasure them even more. All the best to Stephanie --you were her treasure!

My heart goes out to Stephanie, family members, and Vicki's many many friends at this difficult time. I met Vicki thru a mutual friend (Bon) and I can honestly tell you that she was "one of a kind". Laughing with her and just being able to have the opportunity to know her has no-doubt made me a better person just as she made the world a better/happier place for all of us. God bless each of you and hold you tightly during this difficult time. Vicki, thanks for your friendship and the great times we had cutting up. I will miss you, but I will see you again my friend... Luv you!

My family and I became friends with Vicki and her family soon after her sister moved to Hampton in the early 90's.
Being part of their lives has been a true joy and love. We have shared many years of births, graduations, weddings, relocations, BayDayz!, girls night out and the hardest of all the passing of loved ones. But it will be with a smile that we remeber Vic' and know that her spirit lives on in the lives of all that she touched with hers. God bless you Vicki.

God has received a true Angel into His Kingdom. Vicki and I worked side by side for many years while at TAC Hq. and ACC. I can’t describe the many, totally happy days we shared. That’s what will linger in my mind and heart forever, and the tears I shed now, are tears of happiness---because I know she has seen the Face of God.
God Bless the folks left behind---always cherish the fond memories you had of/with Vicki, and never forget them.
Vicki was a very special person, and I’m sure she is looking down on all of us now with that wonderful smile, and saying---I Love You All.

I met Vic (that's what I always called her) at a Legal Secretary's meeting in 1974. She left her secretarial position with a local attorney's office and decided to go to work for the Air Force. She encouraged me to do the same and I followed right behind her and went to work for the Army. She and her husband and me and my husband spent hours together having fun. We made memories. However, we eventually lost touch. She went off to England and eventually came back to LAFB and we ran into each other at the LaSalle gate one morning. What a wonderful surprise that was! I went to her going away luncheon when she was leaving for the Pentagon several years ago and we tried to think of how many years we had known each other... I recently talked to Vic by phone and we caught up, yet again. She was as upbeat as always and I could hear her smile coming through. I'm going to miss that funny and crazy girl. It broke my heart to hear of her passing. May God bless you, her family. Her memories will keep her alive in your hearts. Remember her with smiles...that's what she would have wanted.

The news of Vicki's passing breaks my heart. She was one of the very first people I met when I started working at Langley and we became close friends. It didn't take me long to learn what a beautiful person Vicki was, both inside and out. Family was very important to Vicki and how lucky she was to have such a wonderful family to support her! I'm very lucky our paths crossed and will always remember her. My thoughts and prayers are with Pat, Frank, Stephanie, and the rest of the family.

I am so sorry for your loss, may God shelter you during this time. I worked with Vicki at the Pentagon. We were both hired at the same time from different Air Force Commands; she from ACC, I was AMC. We learned our new jobs and the way of the Pentagon together. She was a VERY special and loving lady. She was always there with a laugh even on a bad day. Tea time was a treasured time together and I will never forget her.

Just wanted to share the note that Vicki was the very first person that said something kind to me when I got on station in 1993. I will never forget that! I really needed it and appreciate her for her kindness which was so sincere and came so naturally for her.

I had the great pleasure of working with Vicki at Langley and the Pentagon. Her smile and joy of life lifted all. She will be surely missed but our loss is heaven's gain! Pat, Frank, Stephie and family -- there are no words to describe my sorrow at Vicki's death. She was fun, a wonderful worker, smart, kind and always ready to offer a helping hand, but with all of these good traits, I believe the one I treasured the most was her sense of loyalty. There are so many things I could write about Vicki, but suffice it to say that I shall always treasure the times we had together and the world is a much sadder place because of her loss. May God comfort you through you time of grief.

My thoughts and prayers are with Stephanie, Pat, Frank, and all the family...I pray the Lord's amazing love and peace will sustain you. I have such great memories of Vicki from high school (HHS Class of '72), and then we both ended up at Langley AFB working for the world's greatest Air Force! We both went back to college while working full time...fun, fun, fun?...to get ahead in our careers. Vicki's AF career took her to England and later to the Pentagon, and mine took me to Texas. But "back in the day" Vicki and I had some great times together that I will keep in my heart, and the memories will always bring a smile to my face. Whenever I think of Vicki, I can hear her laughter...she didn't hold anything back. Love is eternal: "I love you, Vicki!"

Vicki was the life of the party wherever she was. I am sure that Heaven is blessed with her presence. I will miss her laughter and the way she made me feel better when I was going through my times of struggle. Vicki always had a smile to share, a shoulder to cry on, or an ear to hear your thoughts and prayers and I will miss her. God Bless your family and I will never forget you as being a true friend. Your Friend Always,

Vicki is one of the nicest people I knew. She was the only person who talked to me when I first got to Langley and went to the LG Christmas Party. She made me feel good about being there. I'm sorry she left us so soon.
