John Edward Reuler

REULER, JOHN EDWARD, John E. Reuler passed away on Dec. 23, 2006 at age 86. We miss his love of people, his sense of humor, and his keen intelligence. He was guided lifelong by values of his parents and of the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, from which John graduated in 1945 as an engineer and pilot in the Army Air Corp. While stationed in Germany (1946-48), John used his free time to aid Holocaust survivors in the Landsberg DP camp, with the incredible support of the St. Paul and Minneapolis communities. After his West Point graduation, John married Sarah "Sunny" Zemach of Minneapolis. In 1952, John moved his family to Dallas, where he became a custom home builder and active member of the Home Builders Assn. With a passion for patriotism and innovation, John embarked on many avocations, such as working with Dept. of Defense to design concrete shelters during the cold war era and seeking foreign markets for American made products to help reduce the U.S. trade deficit in the 1980s. John was honored to represent the Jewish faith at his West Point 50th reunion memorial service. He was a 54 year member of Congregation Temple Emanu-El, past president of West Point Society of North Texas, life member of Disabled American Veterans Assn, member of American Arbitration Assn, St. Paul Masonic Lodge, among others. Born Dec. 9, 1920 in St. Paul, MN, John was the youngest of 5 children of Agatha Alpiner & Samuel Reuler. John was preceded in death by sisters Janet Halpern & Edith Winston, and by brothers Richard Reuler & Robert Reuler. He is survived by his beloved wife of 61 years, Sarah Reuler, his daughters Sharon Reuler, Judy Bazarsky & husband Howard Bazarsky, grandchildren Debra, Michael & Allyson Bazarsky, sisters-in-laws Dorothy Reuler & Rita Zemach, and cherished nieces & nephews. Graveside service is scheduled for 2pm, Sunday Dec. 24, at Temple Emanu-El Cemetery, 3430 Howell St., Rabbi Debra Robbins officiating.
