Stanley Coning Obituary


News Death Notice

CONING, Stanley T. age 87, of Eaton, OH passed away Friday, December 24, 2010 at his residence. He was born June 17, 1923 in Eaton, OH to the late Everett T. and Bessie L. (Oswalt) Coning. Stanley was a longtime member of the Eaton United Church of Christ, Eaton, OH and former owner of Coning Sales & Service, Eaton, OH. He was owner and manager of the first and only radio station located in Preble County. He first broadcast on the FM band in 1959 and later on the AM band beginning in 1981. He built and installed his own towers located in Eaton and West Alexandria. His radio stations broadcasted Cincinnati Reds games, carried the ABN (Agriculture Broadcasting Network), the Ohio News Network and was the first station in Ohio to broadcast Turner CNN. He was also a member of the Civil Air Patrol and was a licensed pilot. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Helen J. Coning who passed away October 18, 1989; granddaughter April Kreitzer; and brothers Everett and Floyd Coning. He is survived by his daughter Barbara A. Kreitzer of West Alexandria, OH; daughter and son-in-law Beverly K. and John Charles of Pittsburgh, PA; grandchildren Rodney (Lori) Kreitzer of West Alexandria, OH, Christine (Jim) Wright of Erie, PA, Scott (Amy) Davidson of Oakdale, PA and Julie (Zaban) Furness of Las Vegas, NV; 5 great grandchildren; sisters Doris Marie Stephens of Eaton, OH and Patricia Ann Carter of Berea, OH; and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday, December 29, 2010 at the Girton Schmidt & Boucher Gard Funeral Home, 226 West Main Street, Eaton, OH with Rev. Roger Stine officiating. Burial will be in Sugar Grove Cemetery, West Alexandria, OH. Friends will be received from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. on Tuesday, December 28, 2010 and one hour prior to services on Wednesday at the funeral home. Barb & Bev -

So sorry to learn of your father's passing. I worked for WTCM in the Summer of 1966 and have always said that he was the best employer I ever had. I'm glad that we stayed in touch in the years since and coming back to Eaton to visit was always a treat. He will be missed.

A plain,simple and honest man with a passion for the golden age of broadcasting. I used to help him out doing voice-overs for his AM station WCTM. He's reunited with his wife Helen in Heaven. Eternal rest grant upon my freind Stanley O Lord and let the perpetual light shine upon him. May his and all tghe souls of the faithfully departed through the mercy of God rest in peace.
Amen.
