Richard Red Obituary

Richard Preston Red died Wednesday, Oct. 29, 2008, in Fort Worth.
Memorial service: 3:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 14, at Lakeview Fellowship Church, 9940 Morris Dido Road, Fort Worth, followed by a sunset military honor service.

Thereafter he proudly enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and was selected by the secretary of the Navy to attend the U.S. Naval Academy, becoming the much-beloved anchorman of the Naval Academy Class of 1969. Richard continued his service career as a Marine Corps helicopter pilot until his honorable discharge in 1981.
He obtained his master's degree at Pepperdine University in Malibu, Calif., and after returning to his much-loved Lafayette, La., became a successful petroleum landman. He loved the game of golf for its challenge, its honor and its camaraderie, finally beating the odds with his hole-in-one on the 10th at Lafayette Municipal Golf Course on April 7, 2007.

Shortly before Richard´s passing, he came and stayed with me in Las Vegas. We had an awesome few days together. It´s a long story, and we had a great time together. Thanks for Richard´s Legacy Obituary.

Our family was hiking at Eagle Mountain Park when The Marines marched in for Mr. Red's service. We were touched to hear the 21 gun salute and the playing of Taps as the sun was setting. What a beautiful tribute to a life well-lived. We thank him for his service to our country. May he rest in peace.

He fought the good fight right up until the end, never giving up. He maintained a full-of-life, positive attitude that was truly inspiring. He lived life to the fullest, and we are all better for knowing and loving him.

Richard's memory will live on forever.

We all miss his wit, charm, and zest for life.

He was too young to go, but we will all see him later with the Lord.

I am so sorry to learn of Richard's passing, and even sorrier to know that he lived so close by. I would have loved to have renewed our friendship!
Our family had the pleasure of knowing Richard and his parents years back. I remember spending a lot of time with him one summer -- and he sure made me want to go to the Naval Academy! I never did, but he left a lasting impression.

My deepest sympathies and condolences to Richard's family...
