Alice Violette Obituary

WARNER - Alice Bartlett Violette, 96, of Warner, died July 15, 2013, with family by her side at the Concord Hospital.

Alice was born Feb. 3, 1917, at her parent's home in the Melvin Mills section of Warner, the third of four daughters of Elmer J. and Abby Cilley Bartlett and resided in Warner for her entire life. She attended elementary school in "Melvins" and after the family moved to Warner Village in 1930. Alice attended and graduated from Simonds Free High School in the class of 1935. She was an excellent athlete and also played trumpet and piano. During and after her high school years she worked as a part-time operator for Merrimack County Telephone Company in Warner. She was a 60-year-plus member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Unit 39, Warner, and a member of St. Theresa's Catholic Church of Henniker.

She met her husband, Alderic O. "Dick" Violette in 1935 sometime after he came to Warner with the 1147th Company of the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC). Alice and Dick were married on June 10, 1938 and this year celebrated their 75th wedding anniversary. She was a loving, supporting and understanding wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and aunt. Along with being an excellent mom, she worked part-time for Dr. Edward Putnam in Warner as an office assistant and also worked part-time for Hopkinton Telephone Co. and Merrimack County Telephone Co., performing many types of office duties. She and Dick traveled to many locations throughout the United States, Canada, Mexico and the Caribbean.

Alice is survived by her husband Dick; sons David and wife Elaine, Arizona, and Paul and wife Lisa, Warner; and daughters Susan and husband James, Concord, and Joy and husband Nathan, Black Mountain N.C.; 10 grandchildren, Marc Violette and wife Debra of Warner, Paula Violette Brown and husband Michael of Warner, Tracy Violette of Enfield Conn., Daniel Violette of Portsmouth, James Milliken Jr. of Antrim, Andrew Milliken and wife Emily of Middletown Conn., Joshua Milliken and Joanne Ardinger of Concord, Adam Lastra of Black Mountain, N.C., Bailee Violette, and Mickey Violette of Warner; four step-grandchildren: Destry Ogden of Portland, Ore., Shane Ogden, Shauna Ogden Dockter, and John Ogden of Green River, Wyo.; and five great-grandchildren; Lauren Violette of Boston, Ryan Violette of Warner, William Chandler of Warner, Olivia Brown of Warner, and Grace Violette Milliken of Concord. Alice was also survived by numerous nieces and nephews and their families.

She was predeceased by her parents and her three sisters, Margaret Courser, Warner, Louise Clark, Winston-Salem, N.C., and Helen Johnson, Northwood; also by a granddaughter, Molly Scott.

services: Funeral services will be held at St. Theresa's Catholic Church, 158 Old Hopkinton Road, Henniker, on Thursday, July 18, at 11 a.m., followed by a reception at the Church Parish Hall and then by graveside service at Pine Grove Cemetery in Warner. There will be no calling hours.
