WOLODYMYR BEREZOWSKYJ SR. of West Lake Avenue, Guilford CT, beloved husband of Kateryna Berezowskyj passed away Tuesday, August 10, 2010 at his home after a long illness. Walter was born December 4, 1924 in the village of Vikno, Horodenka, Ukraine, the son of the late Edward and Julia Berezowskyj. Walter enjoyed woodworking, gardening, fishing, beekeeping and farming. Walter especially enjoyed his time spent with his family at Soyuzivka in the Catskills and with his 'second family' at The Strong House Adult Daycare in Madison. His favorite saying was 'God Bless America!' He was a retired steel worker from MIF and US Steel, was an active member of St Michaels Ukrainian Catholic Church, The Holy Name Society, Ukrainian National Association ,Ukrainian Veterans Association, PLAST leader (Ukrainian Boy Scouts) and Founder of the first Branford Ukrainian School. Walter was a 4-H leader and sponsor of I.F.Y.E. (International Farm Youth Exchange program), licensed judge for the American Bantam Association, The Plymouth Barred Rock Club, and a bantam breeder and exhibitor, a life member of the Guilford Agriculture Society and the National Bee Keeping Association. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children; Stephanija Berezowskyj VanWilgen (NHPD), Darka Berezowskyj Lindgren and her husband Hank, Bodhan Berezowskyj and his wife Sally, Dr. Y. V. Murty and his wife Cathy, Lesia Altrui and her husband Chris, his niece Halyna Fagmiglietti and her husband Dominic, daughter-in-law Mary Berezowskyj and Thirteen grandchildren; David Smith and his wife Angela, Lesia and Walter J. Berezowskyj, William and Bohdan Disotell , Joseph Lawson, Aart VanWilgen IV and his wife Erin, Aldis and Julia Berezowskyj , Ravi Murty, Sanja Murty and his wife Erin, Darlene Gessert, Stephanie and Tanya Altrui. Five great grandchildren, Nadia Berezowskyj, Patrick and Edward Cembalisty, Tyler Ash Disotell and Aart VanWilgen V. Great nephews Dominic and Nikolia Famiglietti. Predeceased by his sister Stephanija Berezowskyj, his sons Walter Berezowskyj Jr., Myroslaw Berezowskyj and his granddaughter Julia Berezowskyj. Calling Hours will be held on Friday, August 13 from 4 – 8 pm at the Guilford Funeral Home, 115 Church St, Guilford. Panacheda at 7:00 pm on Friday, August 13 at the Guilford Funeral Home. Church services will be held in St. Michael's Ukrainian Church, 569 George St, New Haven on Sat. August 14 at 10am. In Lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to one of the following organizations: St. Michaels Ukrainian Catholic Church of New Haven CT, The Strong House Adult Daycare of Madison CT, Guilford Fire Department, Hospice of Branford CT. and Ridna Shkola (Ukrainian School) of New Haven CT.
