David Allman Obituary

Feb 12, 1940 - Apr 3, 2006. David L. Allman, 66, passed away April 3, 2006, at his home. He was a transplanted native, having lived in Colorado Springs for 30 years. He died suddenly following a very brief illness and the family was able to spend time with him before he left. He was born in Louisville, KY on February 12, 1940 to David Richard and Mozella Lee (Rankin) Allman who predeceased him. He was also predeceased by his brother, Richard. Above all, Dave loved his family. He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Carroll A. (Hoover) Allman, his daughters, Becky Wilson, and Melissa Smith (Tom), his grandchildren, Marcus, Brianne, Stephanie and Sydney Smith. He was especially attached to his "little tornado", Sydney. He truly found great joy with her. He is also survived by his sister, Barbara (Frank) Bova of Springdale, AR and his brother-in-law, Jeff (Robin) Hoover of Bozeman, MT. His 90-year old mother-in-law, Dorothea Brady Hoover, survives and loved him like he was her own. He had several aunts in Kentucky, as well as nieces and nephews in Kentucky, Arkansas, Montana, Minnesota and Arizona. Dave served his country in the United States Air Force, retiring after 20 years from Peterson AFB. While on active duty, he served in Texas, Okinawa, France, Mississippi, Japan, the Philippines, Denver, Turkey, Washington D.C. and Thailand. He continued his service giving another 20 years to the military in the form of Civil Service, at Ft. Carson and then at the USAFA, in the hospital and the Cadet Chapel. Dave loved his country and knew the United States was the best country in the world. Following his retirements, he volunteered his time to Silver Key, Deerfield Hills Food Pantry, and the Food Pantry at Mountain View Presbyterian Church, where he was a member. Dave took great pleasure in sports. When younger he played basketball and bowled in leagues. He avidly watched the Denver Broncos (ecstatic when they beat KC or Oakland!) and the University of Kentucky Wildcats basketball. We can't believe he didn't wait until after the NCAA tournament was finished before making his exit. He loved animals, especially his Labradors, Sugar and Spice and his cat, Dud-dud. A Memorial Service with full military honors will be held at 1:00 on Friday, April 7 at Mountain View Presbyterian Church, located at 2520 Arlington Dr. We will honor his wish to be cremated. Come and tell us your favorite story or memory of Dave. In lieu of flowers, please send a donation to: the Mountain View Presbyterian Church Food Pantry, the North Shore Animal League at 25 Davis Avenue, Port Washington, NY 11050 or www.nsalamerica.org and the MedicAlert Foundation 2323 Colorado Avenue, Turlock, CA 95382.

We were so sorry to hear of Dave's passing. I truly enjoyed Dave when he worked at the Air Force Academy Hospital. He was always cheerful, upbeat, and kind. He would always do what was asked of him and did the very best he could. He had such a good sense of humor and a very calming nature. We will always remember his love for the Kentucky Wildcats. Please know that we are thinking of you, Carol, and praying that God comfort you.

Dear Allman Family

My thoughts and prayers are with you. I am retired now and my friends from the AFA Chapel let me know of Dave's illness and then I had not read my e-mails for 2 days. I regret I missed his farewell. We worked together at the Cadet Chapel. We enjoyed his sense of humor and of course we were fellow Bronco fans. God be with you. I know Dave is safely home. Maria Madigar

Dave was a part of our staff while I was stationed at USAFA in the chaplain's office. I am sorry to hear of his death--he was always a source of caring and kindness for our folks, even if a bit misguided as to his favorite teams...

My prayers are with his family.

I WORKED AT THE CADDYSHACK RESTAURANT AT VALLEY HIGH GOLF COURSE WHERE DAVE USED TO COME JUST ABOUT EVERY MORNING FOR BREAKFAST. WE ALWAYS MADE SURE TO MAKE IT JUST HOW HE LIKED. I WILL MISS YOU DAVE, YOU WERE, AND ALWAYS BE ONE OF THE SWEETEST MEN I KNOW. I KNOW YOU WILL BE IN THE HEARTS OF MANY FOREVER,ESPECIALLY WHEN THE BRONCOS ARE PLAYING! I'LL THINK ABOUT YOU WHEN I PUT ON MY BLUE COAT NEXT WINTER, BECAUSE WE HAVE THE SAME ONE! I'LL MISS YOU DAVE!

I worked with Dave at the AF Academy's chaplains' office. Dave always had a kind word for anyone, welcomed everyone and had a great snese of humor. I'll always remember his passion for his beloved Broncos. Even after I moved out of state he still kept in touch and filled me in on his granddaughter and what a proud grandpa he was. I know he will be sorely missed. RIP Dave.

I remember when we made that bet. It was Kentucky against some other team and I won the bet. The satiisfaction I got from winning that bet carried me for a long time. You are going to be missed in so many ways. May God be with you and with your family.
