Lori Funk Obituary

Family-Placed Death Notice

FUNK, Lori LORI ANNE EVANS FUNK Lori Anne Evans Funk was born April 4, 1970 in Chester, PA and raised in Millville, PA. It was in Millville where Lori first began to follow her heart teaching and impacting the lives of children. In 2007, she found her dream job working with the Georgia Home School System in Atlanta helping students and teachers achieve their potential. Her great passions in life were her family, friends and Drum and Bugle Corps activities. After a sudden and rare illness, Lori went peacefully to be with her Lord on August 27, 2010. She is survived by her husband David Leslie Funk, and children Thomas, Parker, and Nina of Peachtree City, GA. She is also survived by her parents Donald and Shelley Evans, brother Matthew and his family Lisa, Blake, Landon and Larissa all from Millville. She will be missed greatly by all those who loved her including her dear friends Stacie Hollandsworth of Mayport, FL, also Gina Nelkie and Natalie Kohlhaas of Peachtree City, GA. Her faith lead her to seek peace in all situations and for all those whom she loved. Now it is her turn to have that peace surround and hold her close. In Georgia, a service will be held at A.S. Turner and Sons of Decatur on Sunday, August 29, 2010. Visitation will begin at 1:30pm with the service immediately following at 2:30pm. The service in Millville will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers please consider contributing to the Funk Family Fund at the Delta Community Credit Union, further information about this can be found on the AS Turner obituary page (www.asturner.com).

My heart sinks to read of Lori's passing. I fondly remember Lori's inspiring opening remarks to teachers at GCA in 2009. She encouraged them to "find their rock" and to stand for high student achievement and she rightly praised their many accomplishments. She was truly an instructional leader. I hope that Lori's family is able to find comfort in knowing that Lori was that "rock" for many people and that she so positively touched the lives of students, teachers and co-workers, alike. I will sincerely miss Lori.

Pennsylvania Virtual Charter School

September 1, 2010

The Pennsylvania Virtual Charter School community is deeply saddened at the loss of one of its 13 pioneer teachers. Lori joined us in 2001 and she was one of the first teachers in the country to embrace this innovative model of teaching. In the PAVCS community, Lori was a passionate, innovative and dedicated teacher who would do whatever it took to educate her students and support her families. Lori was never too busy to pitch in and help. She was always using her ingenuity and creativity to find ways to make something better and more efficient. Lori was a consummate colleague to all who had the pleasure of working with her and a close personal friend to many in our community.

Virtual education has lost one of its shining stars, but her impact and influence will continue to shine far beyond her earthly presence with us.

Our thoughts, prayers and sincere sympathy are extended to her family at this difficult time.

She will be missed
