Bert Burkhard Obituary
of Erfweiler, Germany on February 26th at the age of 72, left this world to drink heaven's finest wines. Bert fought a good fight against lung cancer the same way he led his life, full of determination, strength and strong will. His favorite saying "Everything I do, I do for you" rang true through all aspects of his well rounded life. Bert was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, friend and boss. His fun loving spirit will be truly missed by all. Please join us to celebrate his amazing life at a memorial service on Tuesday, March 6th at 1pm at West Resthaven Funeral Home, 6450 W. Northern Ave in Glendale. Interment will be held at Resthaven Park Cemetery in Glendale. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to be made to Ryan House, 110 W. Merrell, part of Hospice of the Valley. Condolences may be offered at www.westresthavenfuneralhome.com

Never in my life have I had the pleasure of knowing or working with such a dedicated strong in character person. He has left a wealth of knowledge that was instilled in a number person's. My dear friend Bert is gone from us and we will miss our weekly golf and lunch get togethers. Always a gentleman a friend and great helper at the many events and dinners at our home. I hope God has a golf course and endless supply of great Red Wine.

As I write this my eyes are tearing up for the loss of a great friend. I had the privilege to be Bert's friend for the last few years and one of his golfing buddies. I will miss our great conversations and the many cigars we enjoyed on the links. I will miss working in the kitchen, side by side creating some wonderful dishes, always with too much pepper. Bert was very dear to me and I will always have a little piece of him when doing the things that he loved. My wish is that Bert is hitting the ball straight and long and enjoying a great glass of wine on each hole and never having to worry about BRG (Bert's rules of golf). Rest in Peace, you will be missed by all your friends.

Bert's life was a beautiful example of how we should all live our lives. He gave us the gifts of kindness and caring and touched us in so many ways. While nothing is harder than saying goodbye, we will all have the wonderful memories of the special times we shared with you Bert and those memories will be a part of us forever. I know the Christmas lights in heaven will all be working thanks to you and ours here on earth will be a little brighter. You are a one of a kind and we will miss you so much. Love You

I learned a lot from Bert in the short period of time I worked for him at the Scottsdale Plaza Resort. He instilled a sense of pride in work that I carried with me for the last 20 years of my hospitality career. He was a great hotelier and I am honored to have worked for him.
