Daniel Fitzgerald Obituary

Daniel Squier Fitzgerald Battle Creek Daniel Squier Fitzgerald passed to that "other shore" August 27, 2011 in his beloved Battle Creek where he'd lived his whole lifetime. He was born May 23, 1923 as the second son to Dorothy Squier and Waldo Emerson Fitzgerald (former retired Captain at Fire Station # 3) Before the age of 18 he'd held title to over a dozen carsand his first job was working in a gas station. WWII found him driving a halftrack across Europe. He worked for 36 years as an operating engineer in the Power Plant of Michigan Carton/St. Regis/Champion/International Paper Company and was active in his union. He loved to work with his hands and his heart and was not only a "fixer" but an innovator with a wide variety of interests and skills. A happy wanderer and a family man, he had a unique gift of loving folks just as they were and appreciating them for who they were. Father to three, his son Barry Allen Fitzgerald went before him and he is survived by his two daughters Sue Fitzgerald and Geri Fitzgerald Sullivan, his daughter in law, Leslie Fitzgerald and his granddaughters, Sara (Carl) Burkhart and Anne (Michael) Mullady and his great grandson Colin Daniel Burkhart. I know him only by one of his daughters, and she is a fine testimony to the kind of man he must have been. To all of the family: I am sorry for your loss.
