Rosa Perales Obituary
Born August 20, 1921
Rosa Maria Peña Perales, 86, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother entered into the loving arms of our heavenly father on Dec. 26, 2007, at her residence.
She was preceded in death by her parents Genaro Peña and Rosa Cisneros de Peña; a sister, Aurora Alvarado; three brothers, Saul David, Samuel Hector, and Luis Eugenio Peña; and two grandchildren, Jesenia Jasso and Manuel Uvalle, Jr.
She is survived and will be greatly missed by her loving husband of 67 years Roberto G. Perales Sr. and their 13 children: Elena Mashburn, Roberto (Consuelo) Perales, Jr., Aurelia (Ray) Pitre, Alicia (Manuel Sr. +) Uvalle, Jose Angel (Isaura) Perales, Rosa (Juan) Velez, Aurora P. Mills, Zenon (Amalia) Perales, George (Lupita) Perales, Sylvia Perales, Delia (Juan J. Sr.) Jasso, Virginia Perales (Mariano) Gil, and Rebecca Perales. She is also survived by her three sisters, Flora Perez, Amalia Burns, and Carmen Laubheimer; three brothers, Abelardo Peña, Loreto Genaro Peña, and Gilberto Peña.
Also left to cherish her memory are her 43 grandchildren, 68 great-grandchildren, and 33 great-great-grandchildren and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Visitation will begin at noon today, Friday, Dec. 28, 2007, at Darling-Mouser Funeral Home and continue through 9 p.m. with a prayer service celebrating her life at 7 p.m. this evening.
The funeral service will be at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 29, 2007, at Primera Iglesia Presbiteriana Mexicana. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens. Mrs. Perales' grandsons are honored to be serving as pallbearers for their beloved grandmother.

My deepest condolenses to my Tio Roberto and family. I have so many good memories of my Tia Rosie. When I remember my Tia, I remember her with a smile on her face and a great big laugh that came deep from the heart.

Dear Tio Roberto and cousins, I am very sorry for the loss of Tia Rosie and I am confident that she now sits in the hands of the Almighty. Aunt Rosie will always be the picture of love and happiness in my mind's eye, and I loved her very much. Although we have not seen one another often since my Grandma Rosie (Pena Cisneros) passed away many years ago, Tia Rosie, Tio Roberto and all my cousins will always hold a very special place in my heart. It was many years ago that my father, Loreto Genaro Pena (Nayo) would take us to Brownsville to see our family, and those visits and the love we shared with the Perales Pena, and with all our families will live in my heart forever.
I am Genaro J. Pena (Jerry) and I ask the Lord to keep Tia Rosie always, and to bless Tio Roberto and all my tios and primos.

I'm the daughter of Tía Rosie's youngest brother Gilberto Peña. Deepest condolences to all the family. I'm sorry to say that the last time I saw my tía was more than five years ago. But I will always remember her sweet smile. I also just want to say that, with her passing, something we are left to reflect on—and be grateful for!—is our big, beautiful family. The connection is something special that cannot be measured by numbers. Some of us are cousins—second, third—who may never meet, but we don't have to. We are family. Thank you for this, Tío Roberto and Tía Rosie.

Dear family and friends,
How hard it has been these past few days. The thought of my beloved grandmother’s passing still brings tears to our eyes, and the heartache seems unbearable at times. But as we struggle to cope with our loss, we must remember why it still hurts so much. She was a remarkable woman who showered us all with an unconditional love that is often taken for granted. And I’ve asked myself, what did I ever do to deserve having her in my life? All of us should feel very fortunate that we got to know and love Rosa Maria Pena Perales. She was a truly magnificent person. To be loved by someone like my grandmother was a rare gift that few will ever experience. And that’s why it still hurts. We’ve lost something beautiful that can never be replaced or replicated.
My grandmother once said to me, “I know that at one time I’m going to have to go . . . and it’s going to be nice.” She always spoke directly and honestly. And I’ll always cherish her memory. To my mother Virginia, aunts, uncles, and cousins, I wish each and every one of you the very best. Our lives will never be the same. However, we owe it to my grandmother to live life with integrity, to be generous and kind to the less fortunate, to be hard working members of society, and to be proud of our South Texas roots. As my aunt Becky said, “her legacy and love lives on in each of us.” We should be thankful that she gave us so much love and left us such wonderful memories. We will never forget you, Grandma Rosie.
