I am so sad at the news of "Schmitty's" passing. I was out of town and unable to pay my respects. From the first time I met Tommy in my freshman year, I have many fond and hilarious memories. "Schmitty" was a good friend who always made a huge impression on everyone he met. He will be missed by everyone who ever knew him.
Dorothy, my deepest sympathy to you. Parents aren't supposed to bury their children, no matter how old they are. Suzie, Jimmy & Al, my heartfelt sympathies to all of you, as well. The family has a deep hole in it and I know Tommy will be missed by all of you. I'm so sorry I was not able to pay my respects in person. You are all in my thoughts and prayers.

Dad,
I know its been a while since I have seen you and I am now kicking myself. I love you dearly and I know you would say the same. The best thing about my dad is that no matter what he had your back without question.
To my Aunts Uncles and Grandma I am sorry I could not make it to the services, but i have taken time off Labor day weekend to come down and say goodbye. I love you all and wish I was there.
May the road rise up to meet you, may the wind be at your back, may the sun shine upon your face till we meet again Dad.

The "Gift Of Life" is so often taken for 'granted'...our family and friends, sons and daughters, brothers and sisters are "supposed" to live forever! When they're 'taken' from us, all too soon, do we mourn their passing, or celebrate their 'life'? I choose the latter, because "Smitty" did just "THAT"; celebrated each and every moment! So, here's to you, "Smitty", one more turn around the dance floor...and always getting the checkered flag!! You'll 'live' on in our hearts and minds!

Sad news related today by Mike McGee about Smitty's passing. I was fortunate to have known him; a generous person to a fault. I built him a balloon in the early 80's that he used to set two World Records in for distance and duration. The balloon, named TR2-Megan after our first born, recently was inflated at a rally in Mass., after years of being lost. Somehow Smitty's spirit will always soar. Regret I did not know of the services until this evening otherwise I would have made the trip to Buffalo from Albany. I'll miss seeing old Balloon friends from 30 years ago, so hello to all! I'll miss Smitty's smile the most. He made everyone he touched grateful for having known him. Peace my dear friend!

Dr. Smith,
We are truly saddened by the loss of our dear Smitty. He turned 40 years old on the day our first daughter Kaelyn was born and oh so proud to be one of the first to visit her. He had great warmth and humor. We have many great memories from SportsFocus and Buffalo Rehab Group. As Patrick O'Connor said "Smit-Dog" was an original...that and an amazing spirit... we were lucky to be his friends....we will miss him.

Smitty, though I haven't seen you in a long time, I've never forgotten you. Thank you for those evenings you got me out on the dance floor for some two -steppin' and west coast swing. You're forever in my heart!

Our deepest sympathy to Smitty's family. He was a warm, generous, and KIND man with a sense of humor and ready smile. I especially remember how generously he contributed to care packages for a co-worker to send to her son in Iraq. He will be truly missed by all who knew him well.

My deepest prayers and sympathy to the family.
Smitty, Thanks for the balloon ride...now you won't have to wait for cooler temperatures to gain altitude, nor calmer winds to carry you along. I'll be looking for you in the clouds and maybe you could come fly "right seat" with me.
Will miss the chats in the "Clarence Center Plaza."
