I hardly remember any teachers from school but I'll never forget Mr. Smith. He was one of the best teachers I had. In fact, my 7 year old had a Wax Museum in his 1st grade and he was JFK because I told him all about him because of what I learned from Mr. Smith. I told both of my kids about Mr. Smith today and what an impact he had on me. My prayers go out to the Smith family.

I will never forget Coach Smith. My favorite class ever in school. He spent a couple of weeks devoted to his research on the Kennedy assassination which was incredibly rivoting - especially for a 9th grader. Years later I ran into him at a Chik Fil A in Monroe and introduced him to my son. Coach shook my son's hand and reminded him to look directly into his eyes while shaking. Such a fantastic person will be incredibly missed.

Reading about Chip, I knew he was Christine's boy. I grew up with Christine from age 6 through high school. She was always an inspiration to me and others. I never met Chip but see he lived with the

Mr. Smith was my Civics teacher at McClintock Jr High School in the late 80s. I was also fortunate enough to be on the softball team the first year that he coached it at McClintock. We learned so much from him, as a coach and as a person. He influenced me in many ways and I greatly appreciate him. RIP Coach Smith.

I had the pleasure and honor of knowing Chip when he umpired our league at Pineville and I was the League President. He absolutely spoiled us with his quality as an umpire and more important as a friend. His first priority was always the kids and he had that rare ability to teach while umpiring.... those kids knew they were in the presence of the best. I offer my deepest sympathy to the family and I am sure you know how much he will be missed and how much we all loved him.

Dear Smith Family,
I am so sorry to hear about Chip. We went to school together; we were childhood sweethearts at Spaugh. The last time I talked with him, he was a referee at my son’s baseball game. I was able to introduce him to my husband and son during that ballgame, I am sure that was about 20 years ago. He was the sweet kind person that I remembered from school. I have been out of town and I am so sorry that I missed his service. I remember his mother Christine…she worked for Big Ways radio station and Chip and I always got to go to the Big Ways Birthday parties. Of course it was before either one of us was old enough to drive, so Christine drove us around town. During the 9 months that we were sweethearts, he was a perfect gentleman. I am very sorry; I did not get a chance to meet his wife and children. May God be with you all in this time of loss. He was a special kind of nice person and I am sure he is setting by the hand of our Lord. God bless you all. Sincerely, Mrs. Deborah Summey Kelly

Mr. Smith was my Junior High School softball coach and to this day I can remember all the wonderful things about him. He never gave up on me. I use him as an example for my sons on how to be a honest and loyal man, I only hope they turn out to be half as wonderful a person as Mr. Smith.

I've only known Mr. Smith , "CHIP" through the eyes, voice and heart of his wife Debbie. What a remarkable man to have shown such strength in life. A trait he shares with his wife and no doubt will or has passed onto his children. With utmost admiration I convey my thoughts and prayers to Debbie, Logan and Emily.

Mr. Smith was the toughest man I have ever met. Over the last few years he showed me an unmatched work ethic, a great will to live and the ability to maintain a positive attitude in the toughest of times. The last 8 months we worked side by side, 10-12 hours a day and he didn't complain about his situation one time and he certainly didn't think about giving up. Chip Smith didn't have an ounce of quit in him. I'll miss you my friend.
