Jack Yates Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jan. 21, 2011.
Jack D. Yates, Jr., 62, passed away peacefully Tuesday, January 18, 2011, at his home in Houston, Texas. He was preceded in death by his father, Jack D. Yates Sr.; his stepdaughter, Leisha Tartamella; and grandson, Cameron Tartamella of Houston. Visitation will be held from 2 until 4 p.m. Saturday, January 22, 2011, at Laird Funeral Home. He is survived by his wife, Wanda Yates of Houston; his mother, Helen Yates of Nacogdoches; son, John Yates of Thornton, Colorado; son, Kyle Yates and wife, Katie, of Birmingham, Alabama; daughter, Amy Kuberski and husband, Matt, of Fort Worth; brother, David Yates of Nacogdoches; and four grandchildren. Jack was born December 18, 1948, in Lufkin, Texas, and moved to Nacogdoches shortly thereafter. He spent his early years hunting, fishing, playing baseball and most other sports. In addition, he enjoyed gardening and working on cars. His favorite passion in life was fishing, and that joy lasted throughout his lifetime. He could be found most weekends on Texas' lakes bass fishing with his buddies and competing in tournaments. His love of life and sense of adventure kept life interesting and exciting for Jack and Wanda. They took many trips together exploring the Smoky Mountains, where they shared their vows. Jack's many friends and family members cherish their time with a man who lived life large and was loved by many. In lieu of flowers, the family requests a donation to the charity of your choice. Like others mentioned, I knew Jack only from our online interactions. We spoke of him purchasing a motorhome from a dealer in my area and having me drive down to deliver it to him. Sounded like a great way to get a few days in fishing, Texas style. He will be missed and remembered by many. Jack "fishfordollars" Yates, you are in my thoughts.

My deepest sympathy and condolences go out to the family of one heck of a guy, I can truly call a fisherman and friend. We met on the fishing forum and from all of us on the forum that knew Jack as fishfordollars, he will be surely missed. I had the privilege of fishing several times with Jack and had a great time sharing the experience of both our passion in life to fish. If I can be of assistance in any manner, feel free to contact me at [email protected] My thoughts and prayers go out to you, Wanda and the family. Daniel L. Pierce LaPorte, TX 77571
