I met Steve when I worked as Franklin's football statistician and was privileged to work on the UTEP stats crew for several years with him. The El Paso Sports community has truly lost a legend. I have never met someone with a greater love or knowledge for local sports. Steve, thank you for your friendship and for your knowledge. I know you'll be calling games from Heaven.

Rest in Peace, Steve. I could've sat all night talking El Paso sports with you, but we both had work to do. You were fun during the good times and even fun under pressure. You were also a good soul, which is why you rest now with Our Lord. My thoughts and prayers to the Hill Family, too.

I was saddened today to learn of the passing of Steve Hill, truly the greatest historian of El Paso and West Texas football that ever lived. I was blessed to have known Steve for many years and spend countless hours with him getting a football education from a teacher who was passionate beyond words about the game he loved. What an amazing resource he was. He remembered things about our program that even I had forgotten, and I know every coach who knew Steve would say the same thing. He gave selflessly of his time and his expertise, and we are all better off from having had the opportunity to be able to share with and learn from him. What a nice, caring, honest, straightforward man Steve was. We should all shed a tear , for the football world we know and love has lost a very, very special friend. Rest in Peace, Steve.

Sorry to hear about Steve. I worked with him from 1987-1990 when I was the Women's Basketball Coach at UTEP. Steve was such a great person to work beside. He will be missed by the El Paso sports community.

High school football has lost a great friend. Steve was always promoting high school football. It was very interesting for me to sit down with him and talk high school football and we would talk for hours. He will surely be missed. RIP my friend. My condolences to Charles. He is in a better place.

During the mid 70s, Steve would come into the Panther Pit at Austin High holding a camera to film the game. A bunch of us athletes in the stands would greet him with a loud "Hey Red." We always appreciated the coverage he gave high school sports all these years. Steve was a virtual encyclopedia on local high school sports. He knew more about the "Battle for the Claw" between Austin and El Paso High than anyone I know of. Rest in Peace Steve for you left a mark on all our hearts here in El Paso.

I worked with Steve back in his early years at KDBC-TV. Always the consummate professional and one of the nicest men I have ever worked with. Fond memories of Friday nights at the Sportsman Lounge rehashing the weeks events. RIP Steve, I know the saints in heaven will enjoy your stats and demeanor.
