Eric S. Trueblood Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Mar. 12, 2011.
An eight-year Army veteran, Eric Trueblood was known as an honest soldier who used humor and encouragement to remain positive.

Friends said in a Stars and Stripes newspaper report that he was a skilled bomb technician and had been a trusted mentor.

"He was a good guy, one of a kind, first class," said Spc. Graham Burnsed of the 515th Transportation Company in Mannheim, Germany.

Trueblood, 27, of Alameda, Calif., died March 10 after his unit was attacked Kandahar province, Afghanistan. He was based in Mannheim and on his second to ur in Afghanistan.

An obituary for him published in the Laramie (Wyo.) Boomerang said he was born in Gillete, and he and his family lived in the state until he was 5. They then moved to Alameda, Calif., where Trueblood attended St. Joseph School.

He enlisted in the Army in March 2003 and eventually became a bomb technician.

"Eric was always there when you needed someone," said Spc. Kyle Holly. "He was a person of action."

Trueblood's survivors include his mother, Linda Trueblood, of Mountain View, Calif.; father, Donald Trueblood, of Walnut Creek, Calif.; and sister, Nena Trueblood.

I didn't know Eric, however I was there in Kandahar and helped remove him from the Helo as he was flown in to the base. I had then seen an newspaper article a day or two later while I was on Bargam Airbase with his name in it and I kept it. Today I came across it as I was going trough some files. I will honor him this Veterans Day and shared the YouTube link to honor him. Rest in peace.

What an inspiring young man and life. The medals and awards adorning his army greens attest that he served our country with honor, integrity and extreme bravery. This country has lost a valued son. May God bless him and his grieving family and friends. May people honor him as they see the Wyoming flying at half mast this day and tomorrow.

To the Trueblood family,

I know there are no words to say at this time, except how sorry that I am. I truly feel your loss and pain. My thoughts and prayers are with you always. Eric will never be forgotten.

For you every single soldier
Those who served so honorable
Your life was forever altered
While I’m home safe and free
I stand with grateful admiration
I stand respectful and so proud
I know I’m only a civilian
And I don’t even know if it’s allowed

But I salute you; allow me the honor
to salute you with permission let me say
Even though I hold no rank know that from my heart
My humble gratitude comes from the deepest part.
I salute you.

For those missing in action;
for those who didn’t make it home.
I know you’re in God’s presence you are not alone.
For every neatly folded flag;
for every shattered family
I will do the only thing I know to dignify your memory.

I salute you, allow me the honor
to salute you with permission let me say
even though I hold no rank know that from my heart
my humble gratitude comes from the deepest part.

I salute you .

I Salute You.

I was fortunate to have had known Eric and his family as a parent and on staff at St. Joseph Elementary School in Alameda. Eric was a solid kid with self confidence and showed a great deal of integrity and humor at a young age. What an honor to have known Eric!

My prayers and healing energy go out to the family during this time. May you be surrounded by love and peace as you remember this wonderful young man that gave his life to ensure freedom in our world!!

It was a privilege and an honor to have served with Eric for the short time we spent together in Germany. Eric you were a friend and one hell of an NCO. Rest peacefully in good company and know that your work will not be forgotten. You serve as an example of a true professional one of the few willing to make the ultimate sacrifice.

My husband, Matthew Wilkinson, went to school with Eric in Florida. They graduated in the same class and both received orders to Germany. We spent a lot of time with Eric and he was truly one of the greater men i know. He was an outstanding soldier and a trustworthy friend. We spent the holidays together in Germany and he and my husband even talked about finding jobs together when they got back to California. My deepest sympathy goes out to all Eric's friends and family. May he rest in peace.

The Final Salute

“Brothers in Arms”, Military men and women down through the centuries, have traditionally exchanged “Hand Salutes” as a sign of recognition and as a way to render courtesy and respect one to another.

This “Hand Salute” is the last that we shall render to S/Sgt. Eric S. Trueblood our Brother-in-Arms . To his family it symbolizes the love and respect that we have for Eric. And to Eric it is rendered as a symbol of honor and gratitude to thank him for the ultimate sacrifice he made for his country while opposing enemy forces in Afghanistan. No greater love is shown than a man lay down his life for another. Eric, you are a brave American Warrior, a true Patriot and a national Hero. With your passing, our Country has lost a National Treasure. We bid you a sad farewell. You will be dearly missed from among our ranks. Be at ease. Rest in Peace.

On behalf of the 1,307 military Legionnaire Veterans of Lowe-McFarlane Post 14 of the American Legion in Shreveport, Louisiana, I extend our sympathies and our condolences to Eric’s family and loved ones.
