BOWERS, John L. "Papa John" - Of Lennon, age 82, died Wednesday, November 10, 2010 at Owosso Memorial Hospital. Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, November 13, 2010 at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Reverend Eddie Chandler officiating. Burial in Crestwood Cemetery. Those desiring may make contributions to the charity of one's choice. Visitation 12-3 p.m. and 5-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. John was born in Bristol, Tennessee on December 5, 1927, the son of Bob and Susan Bowers. He served in the U.S. Air Force. He married Freda "Lucille" Bowers on February 24, 1979 and she preceded him in death on March 9, 2007. He was very devoted to his family, especially his grandchildren. Mr. Bowers was employed by General Motors Metal Fab for 40 years, retiring in 1993 and was a member of UAW Local 659. Surviving are his three daughters, Connie (Larry) Hammer of Lennon, Shelly (Theron) Allen of Burton and Sandy (Perry) Pippenger of Louisiana; grandchildren, Crystal (Troy) Greene, Malissa Hammer, Johnnie Taylor, Tracy(Luke) Mageli, Matthew Taylor, Corey Pippenger, Felicia Taylor, Kenneth Taylor, Caleb Pippenger, Hayley Allen, Raymond Allen and Ryan Allen; great-grandchildren, Adrianna Hammer, Jailyn Taylor, Nolan Greene, Olivia Mahan, Chase Hargrove, Riley Mageli, Parker Greene, Brooklyn Taylor, Amaya Taylor, Naudia Taylor and Faith Mageli; special niece and nephew, Linda and Bud Jones of Columbiaville; many nieces and nephews. Dear family, I heard today of the passing of Johnny. My Aunt Hazel called to let me know. I am the daughter of the late C.W. Bowers (son of the late Cicero & Ada Bowers).
