Still missing my dear, dear friend.
He was one in a million and I am grateful to have shared good and hard times with him over the years.

It’s been 10 years since all of us lost him in the present place. I have missed him so much. There have been countless times when I reached for the phone wanting to share, hear his voice or just tell him something that would make him laugh.

It’s ironic that today my husband and I are going to one of his favorite places, Williamsburg and DOG Street, where Wally and I spent so many wonderful times in college and at class reunions. So this weekend Bill and I will take one of those “DOG Street” walks with Wally in our hearts.

Wally, I miss you and I love you.

I worked with Walter at BP for about the last three years. What a great guy! We would talk about baseball and I would always give him grief about the Baltimore Orioles. Besides having a passion for his Orioles, Walter was passionate about his work and a just quality person. I will miss him a bunch!

Wally was among the very best of our GCHS Class of '75 who went on to give so much to the world and to others. May his legacy live on to inspire us all. Heartfelt condolences to his family, friends and colleagues.

I had just recently gotten to know Walter, as I had sprained my ankle at work. He was so caring and checked on me constantly to make sure I was doing okay. He was a testament to a close knit family that raised a man who was genuinely compassionate to others. I am truly saddened for your loss. Sandra Fencl

Walter was the perfect neighbor next door, the kind that everyone wishes they could have. When we moved to Aurora last summer he came over to say hello and welcomed us to the neighborhood. His comment was "You are going to like it here, very quiet and nice place to live". He was right. We never really had a chance to get to know him better (he traveled a lot) but we know he was a great man and we miss him already.

It is with great sadness that I learned of Wally's death. He was one of the first people I met at Garden City Junior High School and remained a friend decades later. He was a truly wonderful man who was remarkably genuine, and the lights over the world are a bit dimmed without him.
My condolences to all of his family.

There are no adequate ways to express how profoundly sorry I am for your family's loss.
Wally was one the dearest and kindest men that I have ever known and I will miss him always...the truest and most compassionate of friends. From the very beginning back in 1975 at William and Mary, his keen wit and sense of humor, his kindness, his courteous manners, his abiding faith were his hallmarks. I have cherished the constancy of our friendship for over thirty five years....truly loved him as a brother.
My husband, Bill, and my parents, each grew to know him well and to love him, too. They join me in sending love and prayers of support to all of you. Ralph Waldo Emerson wrote, "A friend may well be reckoned the masterpiece of nature". I was blessed to have found such a friend in him.
May the Lord bless each of you with healing strength.

I have been friends with Wally since 1983, when he stopped by my duplex on Carey Place in Oklahoma City and introduced himself. A short time later, the duplex became available and he moved in. We became friends very quickly; before long we were spending a lot of our free time together. We cooked, shopped, watched old movies, attended concerts together and just “hung out”. He was instrumental in my going through with my Catholic confirmation. He was a dear person with a good heart and a lot of fun to be with. He also had a wonderful sense of humor and a keen intelligence, but I’m sure you all know that better than anyone. Even after he left OKC, we got together and stayed in touch. I visited him in Philadelphia and we attended the Flower show together; he came back to OKC for my wedding 8 years ago.

When he lived in Oklahoma City, he often attended family dinners with me. Both of my parents, of blessed memory, adored him. He was always welcome; I felt that when I came without him, they were disappointed!

Anyone who knew Wally will miss him. I spoke to him only a couple of weeks ago and I told him although I envied his frequent flier miles, I couldn’t work the kind of pace he kept with his career. He was a hard worker, full of integrity and dedication.
I will be hosting a "Remembering Wally" life celebration between the holidays so his OKC friends who could not make it to NYC can toast him and celebrate his life. I've loved him since I met him, and I love him still.
I wish I were meeting all of you under different circumstances, but I will be there on Monday and look forward to seeing the folks I've heard so much about.
