MR and Mrs Anderson, I want to let you know, I personally didn't know your son, though his name came across my desk daily. I think of him a lot. I was assigned to 1-87th INF BN and was in Kunduz with him. I put your son on the plane in Bagram. The ceremony there was beautiful. He had the plane to himself. The Flag draped over his casket looked impressive. I have spent over 20 years in the Army and never seen so many Generals and high ranking Officers in one location. I shipped all his belongings and hope all was received in good conditions. The Captain responsible to inventory his belongings did an outstanding and honorable job. Again, I personally didn't know your son, but everything I ever heard about him involved a smile and laughter. From what I gather, he always put a smile on all the guys, even when things weren't so positive in Kunduz. I overheard one Soldier say one day, "You don't need to be sad, you know damn well his up there telling jokes and making everybody laugh!!" I don't know if this will ever get to you, but I wanted to let both of you know, I put him in the plane and I think about him a lot!!!

My prayers are with you and your family while you go through this tough time. I served with him and trained him when he first got to Fort Drum. He was a good mand and soldier and he will be missed by all of his brothers.

Bucky, we miss you so extremely much. I find it hard to believe that it has been almost a month. We are all so extremely proud of you. I love you and always will. RIP.

The Final Salute

“Brothers in Arms”, Military men and women down through the centuries, have traditionally exchanged “Hand Salutes” as a sign of recognition and as a way to render courtesy and respect one to another.

This “Hand Salute” is the last that we shall render to our Brother-in-Arms SPC. Brian Anderson. To his family it symbolizes the love and respect that we have for Brian. And to Brian it is rendered as a symbol of honor and gratitude to thank him for the ultimate sacrifice he made for his country while opposing enemy forces in Afghanistan. No greater love is shown than a man lay down his life for another. Brian, you are a brave American Warrior, a true Patriot and a national Hero. With your passing, our Country has lost a National Treasure. We bid you a sad farewell. You will be dearly missed from among our ranks. Be at ease. Rest in Peace.
