I climbed Red Rocks in the 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb on 9/11/2019 and climbed in honor of Lt. Harrell. This is my sixth year of participating in this climb and I do it in honor of a firefighter each year as well as his family and friends. My son is a firefighter in Colorado so I always pray for the mom of the firefighter for whom I am climbing. God bless his family and friends. Thank you to Lieutenant Harrell for his service and sacrifice.

Condolences to his wife and children. Never meet Mr. Harrell, but recently came back from the memorial site in NY and bought a random bracelet as a memorial to those who are our heroes. Lt. Harrell's name is on the bracelet which I have been wearing since my visit. It was just a blind pick and the luck of the draw!

My wife and I had the honor to visit the memorial on 9-12-11. We did not know what to expect once inside. The feeling of loss wasn't apparent until we moved closer to the edge of the waterfalls and began to see the names......Needless to say it was overwhelming. Although we did not know anyone personally, in a sense we did. They were, and still are, our fellow Americans. As I was going through the many pictures we took,I noticed the two same last names....Harrell.....Thank you Harvey and Stephen and respective families for your service and sacrifice

This morning I climbed the Century link tower in Denver Colorado in honor of the 343 firefighters that were lost 10 years ago today. On my helmet I carried the picture and name of Lt. Harvey L Harrell. It was an honor to do this in memory of him. I did not know him but through the selfless actions which led him into the world trade center towers, I consider him a hero. As long as I am alive I promise that I will NEVER Forget.

Harvey was my very first "real" boyfriend, and, at 18 yrs. old, he would take the ferry, and a looong subway ride to visit me in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. We didn't date for a long time, but it was apparent what a gentle, caring, authentic young man he was. Clearly, based on the comments and reminiscences of him I've read, Harvey continued to be a loving, "quality" person and a down-to-earth good guy throughout his entire life. I consider myself lucky to have met and gotten to know him...at least for a brief period of time in my teens. On this 10th anniversary of his loss, I pray that his family finds peace and comfort. (I know he is with my brother, who was also taken from this earth much too soon.... and whom Harvey met many, many years ago when we double-dated at Central Park.)

September 8, 2011

as the 10th anniversary quickly approaches, it still feels like yesterday. being in school, finding out the news, being glued to the tv for days straight, praying everytime they found a survivor - they would say your name. waiting for the news, but it wasn't until october that they held the service. i see you on the streets sometimes, i swear. i miss you and you have a wonderful family. god, i miss you.

On 9/9/01,my father, who lived around the corner from Rescue 5, suffered a heart attack. Rescue 5 responded to the 911 call. My daughter, 8 at the time, was panic-stricken at the thought of her Poppy being ill and weakened; Lt. Harrell comforted her, asuring her that everything would be fine. The FDNY became her heroes that day, Lt. Harrell a superhero. His assurance calmed my very frightened daughter, and she and I will always remember that. We were both devestated to hear that he was one of those who gave his life. God bless him, and God bless his family.

September 12, 2010

Mrs. Harrell,
My name is Tyler Crews I am a Firefighter in Franklin, TN.
I was also given your husband's name in the 1st annual Nashville memorial stair climb. I was very proud to carry his picture the entire distance. As the 10 year mark of this event approaches us, I feel that you and your family should always be reminded that his and your sacrifce is still greatly appreciated. Not only because he lost his life at this high profile event, but also because he was simply a Firefighter who lost his life in service for others. That fact is not lost on us in the fire service. Thank you and your family members for all that you have been through. Thank you for supporting Lt. Harrell in his fire service career.
This was a true American tragedy but members of the FDNY saved countless lives that day while affecting the largest rescue in fire service history. Again as an American, Firefighter, Husband, and Dad, Thank you.

I am participating in the 2,996 project where bloggers are given one person that lost their life on 9/11 to pay tribute to. I am incredibly honored to have Lt. Harrell matched up with me. From what I have read, he truely was an amazing man.

My daughter and Harvey share the same last name so it makes it even more special.

even though i live many miles away and never met Lt.Harvey L. Harrell, It took my breath away to see my last name on the day the list of casualties was released. I guess it is a reminder that hits very close to home. I will never forget the sacrifices that so many people made on that day 4 years ago. So, from the Harrell family in west monroe, Louisiana, we are sorry for your loss. Our prayers and thoughts are with you now and always.

Steve and I were partners working together at Caro Beer & Soda Distributors. I remember how proud He was of Harvey and how He and I aspired to be firemen. All steve ever talked about was His older Brother and the first time I met Harvey, I knew why. These were two of the most genuine human beings on earth and I am honored to have known them. God blesses those whose hearts are pure,

for they will see God. I know that the Harrell Brothers are basking in Gods Glory. That thought consoles me when I think of the loss and sadness I feel whenever I think of my friends. One day we will meet again in the kingdom of Heaven.

To the Harrell Family:

I was terribly saddened by the loss of both Buddy and Stephen. I spent the summers in Midland Beach and remember all the fun times Buddy, Joan Brodrick (nee Tibbits) and I use to have. My grandmother was Mae Hesse and never a bbq went by that Buddy wasn't asked to join in the egg throwing contests. I thank God I was fortunate to have known him. He was a wonderful child, teenager & man.

I never met Lt. Harvey L. Harrell, the reason I know of him is because of the article I read of Paul Arias

in the Fresno Bee, in Fresno California. Mr. Arias came to Clovis, Calif. back on December 8th, 2001. Mr. David McDonald, Pelco CEO, provided us, in the Central California, a personal way to say "thank you" to all of the Firefighters, Police Officers, Port Authoritiy Police Officers, and every other body of enforcement, which came to dedication of the granite and stainless steel monument 9/11.

I went to that memorial service, with the small United States Flag in hand, and watched New York's finest get off the chartered buses and the crowd of Central Californian's cheering and clapping with such heartfelt pride and joy of seeing and welcoming these men and women into their hearts.

It was bittersweet to know that so many had been lost doing the job which they loved. But it was great to see them in person, it was our

way to see them, smile, wave our flags and just say "thank you, and I'm sorry", what more could we say.

I saved the article and took it out and read it, I kept going back to Paul Arias. He was looking for two chairs, one with the name of Harvey and the other Stephen, both Harrell's. I thought, my God, this is reality, but it's not about me.

It is about their families, wives, children, brothers, sisters, uncles,

daughters, neices, nephews, grandparents, grandchildren, aunts, friends, friends, and every other person they have touched to enrich/change their lives.

I wish I could have met them. I read their tributes and know that the world has lost so much, but heaven has gained a couple of wonderful guardian angels.

They are in my heart, as I know that they occupy so many other permanent spots in others. I hope the families are doing well. Both, Harvey and Stephen you are in my thoughts as well as your family in my prayers.

Lastly, Paul Arias, I hope you are doing well also. Thank you so much for coming to Clovis, I never would

have been able to have known such a powerful of friendship, if you would have not shared that with us on the West Coast!

Everybody take care and God Bless!!

To The Harrell Family,

I am so sorry for the loss of your beloved Harvey. He was a Hero on earth and he is now an Angel in Heaven.

Rest In Peace, Harvey.

God Bless you and the loved ones who have been left behind.

I am so sorry for your loss.

To the family and friends of Lt. Harrell:

Courage is an easy word to say but a very hard thing to show. Hero is a word quite often used incorrectly in the time before September 11, 2001. The actions of Lt. Harrell and the hundreds of others like him have shown the world what true courage and a true hero really are: dedicated men and women willing to go forth and do the work only they could perform in the face of unimaginable danger and horror.

My paltry tribute is so little to offer in the face of your pain but know that even in Utah our pride in the actions of your loved one renews our faith in America and the human spirit.

May whatever higher power you believe in give you comfort at this time and strength to carry on proudly, just as Lt. Harrell did.

Teresa Jahn

December 30, 2001

We are very sorry for your loss of Harvey. We thank him for all he did for others as a firefighter. Such a devotion to others comes with a brave, warm and caring heart. May Harvey's courage, life and love live on in those who love him. Our hearts cry with you.

America Cries

We see your sorrow-

and our hearts cry....

We can not erase your pain

but you do not have to face the anguish alone-for we-

-the American people-

are beside you.

We so desperately want to have the touch that brings you comfort,

the strength that gives you courage,

and the words to lighten your spirits.

And when we are left speechless

may the silence of our nation weave love into your hearts

to ease your sorrow.

May you find healing through our nation's strength as we-

-the American people-

face this difficult time together. Our hearts are with you. Teresa Jahn
