I think of you daily Ivan as I see your beautiful face through your mom and sister's postings and I say prayers for them and Nathan and your dad. I am so proud of them for their love and courage and of you for your service and sacrifice. I know a Marine is a calling like no other. Of my own son, and all that I have met and heard about, they were called to this glorious position to be a United States Marine. I hope you and Joey have found each other and I know Heaven is the place where all of your earthly dreams have come true! I look forward to meeting you one fine day! Semper Fi!

February 22, 2009

My son, PFC Baratone, graduated from Boot Camp on 10/31/08. I remember noticing at the American Flag had been lowered. Proud to be at the graduation, but my heart ached at the same time, for I knew that we had a Fallen Hero.

My son is now 0311/Infantry. Watching my son, and being a Marine Mom, I know that all Marine sons are "our" sons. I also know that being a Marine is more than just a job. It is their destiny. A Marine isn't like any other. The pride, the honor, the commitment. Your son will always be remembered as one of America's Finest. One of the Few, the Proud, a United States Marine.

To the family: My heart aches for each of you. I don't know you personally, but we are bonded by the Corps. We are forever family...the Proud Marine Family.

Semper Fi,

Marine Mom, Alice Baratone; PFC Michael Baratone; Greg Baratone; and Kathryn Baratone

------------------------------------------To our soldiers lost...

To everyone and anyone who lost their soldier in this war or any war; I cry for them. The world is a better place for them being here and thier call to duty. They will be missed.

I cry for you. Not to see their faces (just one more time), not to hear them laugh (just one more time), not to touch them (for the last time), the pain is almost unbareable.

Anyone that has lost someone, that they love, knows these feelings. Our soldiers are the soldiers of the world, fighting for truth, justice, freedom and the good of all mankind.

They should and will be honered always, NEVER FORGOTTEN. God has chosen them for the greatest of sacrifices and they will be rewarded with the greatest of Gods's love. Until you return home and are reunited, know that they love you, as you have loved them.

Operations Chief from 3RD BN 14TH Marines..I was Escorted to Dover Airforce Base and provided a suite at the Eagle's Rest on site...The next day Sgt briefed me on Ivan's and my return flight August 14th...I was introduced to CPL R of Quantico,Va..Ivan's United States Marine Escort...CPL R did not leave Ivan until he had been laid down....it was very special to meet Cpl R as well as Sgt G and CPL T ..Thursday 5 am we all arrived at the airstrip..The Honor Guards carried our children to us and I touched and felt my son for the first time..again..It is first light and we face to the East..and off my shoulder are dozens of C5 Aircraft in a row silhouted in fading darkness..I do not stand firm..hand over my heart..I go to my son and push my face into his flagged draped casket and know that for certain these tears represent our entire family..and it is the moment...this moment...that first touch..falling on him and convincing myself instantaneously..my tears belong there...and that they will be noticed..and known exactly and identifyable...the words to describe the moment...bringing Ivan home to be laid down..I am entrusted..honored...on board the most private flight our Nation has...to bring our children home...Escorted by CPL R....Ivan...United States Marine Corps...an Ultimate Fly Over...Missing Man..Atlantic to Pacific...from sea to shing sea ...for an American Hero...MINE!...I always told you this truth....that you were!...that you were!....that you were....mine..you know also that you are all of ours and not alone son..take care of each other and you guys keep watch over the rest of us here..xoxoxo dad over and out

There is no greater loss than that of a child, regardless of age, there are no words of comfort, no words that take the pain away.

Ivan, died a hero, and will not be forgotten his courage, his sacrifice, and his honor, will always be synonymous with land of the free and home of the brave....

May God bless you, those that raised this fine young man, for Ivan, is now doing what he did best, still protecting us, just now from heaven.

Your family will remain in our thoughts and prayers.

Denise,
I knew you years ago, and you probably don't remember me. I left Lake County a while back. From time to time I look through the Record Bee on line and I saw the story about your son. I knew instantly that it was your boy. I hoped against hope that it wasn't but it is. I'm so sorry this has happened. I've shed tears for you and prayers go out to you and your family. You must be very proud of your wonderful, heroic son. All of America owes your family a debt that can never be repaid. Once again, I am sorry for your loss. I know you won't remember me but I will always remember you and your son.

Prayer for Peace

Lord, make me an instrument of your peace;
Where there is hatred, let me sow love;
Where there is injury, pardon;
Where there is doubt, faith;
Where there is despair, hope;
Where there is darkness, light;
And where there is sadness, joy.

O Divine Master,
Grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console;
To be understood, as to understand;
To be loved, as to love;
For it is in giving that we receive,
It is in pardoning that we are pardoned,
And it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.

Amen

To the family and parents of Ivan I want you to know that you are not alone in the grief you are feeling. I too know what you are going through and what you will go through in the coming weeks and months ahead. You will have many questions as to why? You will have many things to get ready or go through and that should be done in time. Sometimes it just can’t be faced and that’s ok, for you will know when the time is right for you. There is no right or wrong way to grieve it’s an individual journey that unfortunately we now have to take. I ask that God give the comfort, strength and courage that you are going to need. When and if the time is right for you please contact me. You can cry, vent, or just talk as only another person who has been where you are can really know what you are going through. May God continue to be with you and heal you.

I did not have the honor and privilege of knowing Private 1st Class Ivan Wilson, but I am deeply grieved to hear of his passing. I feel that our soldiers are truly the sons and daughters of all Americans. We are so proud of them all and we also want to always honor and remember those like Ivan who gave the ultimate sacrifice of their life for all of us. I want to join the Wilson family and the many friends who are grieving for Ivan as well as celebrating his life and the man that he grew to be. My deepest felt sympathies go out to you and my most sincerest of prayers are and will continue from now on to be whispered for you all each day in the future. I would not want any of our boys and girls to be forgotten nor to let their sacrifices be considered to be in vain as some would try to make it. Ivan, thank you for all that you did to make this world a better place from the time your mama found out you were going to be born to the present time. We will never forget you and we all will look forward to when we can join you in that "better place" where there is no more hatred, war or death and no more pain, suffering or tears. Until then, rest in peace, son.

To the Wilson family,

I know there are no words to say, except how sorry I am for your loss. May you hold Ivans' memory in your heart and please remember he shall never be forgotten.

...For you every single soldier
Those who served so honorable
Your life was forever altered
While I’m home safe and free
I stand with grateful admiration
I stand respectful and so proud
I know I’m only a civilian
And I don’t even know if it’s allowed.

But I salute you; allow me the honor
to salute you with permission let me say
Even though I hold no rank know that from my heart
My humble gratitude comes from the deepest part.
I salute you.
