Jason R. Hendrix Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Feb. 19, 2005.
Jason Hendrix made sacrifices for his men, once using nearly $2,000 of his own money to buy night-vision goggles, face masks and flashlights and giving up his Christmas leave so another man with a new baby could go home. "He was a protective big brother," said his aunt, Melanie Massera. "He was that way with his men. He cared for them in a very protective way." Hendrix, 28, of Claremore, Okla., died Feb. 16 in an explosion while trying to save a fellow soldier whose vehicle was under attack in Iraq. He was based at Camp Hovey, Korea. As the leader of a 25-man squad and the eldest of seven siblings, Hendrix knew the importance of setting a good example for others to follow. Hendrix was a popular teenager who loved to play basketball and break-dance. During his senior year, Hendrix became noticeably motivated and focused, said Mike Hinds, who attended high school with him in Claremore. "He decided to go into the military; he wanted to serve his country, and he put out a lot of effort for it," Hinds said. Hendrix is survived by his mother and stepfather, Renee and Danny Amick, and father, Russell Hendrix.

I remember Jason from back in the days of Rolling Hills Middle School. I always wondered where he went when High school started. I was stationed in Germany when I got word of Jason's passing and it did hit close to home. I know this is late but my condolences go to Jason's family.

The flag is flying in the sky
A daily reminder of who and why
We sit here remembering them today
These heroes that now lie in their grave.

While here on earth, the bravest ones
A soldier, a mother, a daughter, a son
The father's who went far off to war
To ensure our safety and so much more

To keep our children happy and free,
Someone must do this job, you see
So, today remember the soldiers who served,
Because this is one thing they truly deserve.

The loved one's that they have left behind,
The Gold Star mothers, like your and mine
We honor them proudly, every day
Our American Soldier...Proud and Brave
By Shannon Williams-Austill

I want to thank this soldier for their sacrifice.
And, I wish to extend my deepest regards to the loved ones they have left behind. Their service to our nation, has not gone unnoticed. They are our heroes, who paid the ultimate price for us, and that is something that every American needs to be reminded of and remember everyday.
The freedom we all have, we have because of brave young men and women who made a choice to defend and serve.
Today, let me remember your loved one with you.

It has been awhile since Jason passed on with love I say I'm glad to see that Danny and Renee and the rest of the family are doing better. Life moves on Jason would want it that way for his family. I think the wooden carving is rather cool who ever is doing that. If it gets done I would love to see a picture of it posted as well here. I started my Army career at Camp Hovey, Korea and about half way through my tour had the pleasure of meeting SSG Hendrix. He later became my Squad Leader and friend. He taught me how to be a man more than he taught me how to be a soldier but don't mistake that... I learned alot about the military from him. There's not a day that goes by that I don't think about him and miss the ever living crap out of him. Rest in peace my brother

With the passing of yet another Memorial Day weekend, I'm humbly reminded that our family is not the only Gold Star family in Oklahoma. I've set aside time today to reflect on the past and remember that your family has suffered the loss of their soldier. Thank you for this soldier's service and duty. As he will always be dearly missed because he payed the ultimate sacrifice. He gave his life to protect our country and our freedom.

There is nothing that I can say or do to take away the pain or bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer you and your family my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.

Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.

I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON, a dear family friend who joined the Army with three other friends, one of whom is my son (Le Ron was killed in action on 07/06/07 at the age of 18) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.

REST IN PEACE, HERO, YOU WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN!!

I knew Jason in High School, we were both Californians who moved to Claremore, he reminded me of people back home, so full of energy! We didn't keep in touch after he graduated or anything, but I was recently stationed in Korea at Cp Casey / Hovey, and saw a tribute they have to him and the others who payed the ultimate price at the front main gate, and he is not forgotten there, or anywhere. My prayers go out to his family, friends and brothers/sisters in arms.

Psalm 23

1

The LORD is my shepherd, I shall not be in want.

2

He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters,

3

He restores my soul. He guides me in paths of righteousness for his name's sake.

4

Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.

5

You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.

6

Surely goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever.

This is a verse that I have found to be comforting to me during my husbands death. Remember that when it seems that no one else is round, God is still there with you! And he will be your rock!

My daughter,McKaLyne, and I send our heartfelt sympathy for your loss! God Bless this warrior, God Bless those whom serve freedom's cause! They are our true HERO's!!!!

I got to meet your unit a couple weeks ago and they were absolutely wonderful to hang out with!! I'm so thankful I got the chance to meet them! The stories just made me so humble and they all had you down to a T! You all really are brothers and it was great to know you had men like them there for you in times of war! Watch over those babies for me sense I can't be there! I hope you're having fun up there with all the ladies....don't get too carried away!! I love and miss you tons!!

I served with the dizzle in Iraq. SSG Hendrix was a great man and a good leader. He gave a 100% all the time and had me motivated to be part of the time. He gave his life for his men. HE always put his men before him. You will always be missed and be in my heart. It was also great to meet the Hendrix family there great.

Though he and I were never close, I remember Jason. He had an energy that filled those who knew him. As a fellow service member and classmate I will morn him. Men like him are in short supply in this world and he will be sorely missed! He died doing what he believed in and while that is little consolation, it should be remembered that it is what defined him. It is a sacrafice we honor and he will not be forgotten.

I had to do a biography on a soldier who has died in Operation Iraqi Freedom in my International Politics class. I chose Staff Sgt. Jason Hendrix because I was amazed of his service to his men and his country. I am still trying to fight back the tears that I almost shed writing this paper. Even though I did not know him personally, I definitely sympathize with all of his family, friends, and loved ones. He did a great service to this country, that I am forever grateful for.

JASON WAS A GREAT NEPHEW, WE ALWAYS SEEM TO HAVE HAD A GOOD TIME TOGETHER,WHATEVER WE WERE DOING, FISHING, SPORTS, GOING TO AIRSHOWS OR OPEN HOUSE AT FORT ORD AND THE NATIONAL GUARD ARMORY,FLYING IN THE CESSNA OR WHATEVER.

I KNOW HE WAS A TRUE SOLDIER, A REAL WARRIOR, ALWAYS GOOD TO GO AND THAT IS WHAT HE ALWAYS WANTED TO BE.

I HAVE BEEN TOLD BY HIS TROOPS THAT HE TOOK VERY GOOD CARE OF THEM AND HE WAS ALWAYS THE FIRST ONE THERE TO HELP ANYONE THAT NEEDED IT.

JAY WAS A SPECIAL PERSON AND WILL ALWAYS BE SPECIAL TO ME, ALL OF HIS FAMILY AND TO EVERYONE THAT HAD THE GOOD LUCK TO KNOW HIM.

I hope everyone will take a few minutes of their time to write an entry into "Jay's" guest book... God gave us so many things when he gave us Jason! For me, a wonderful cousin who would always tell me like it was!

I can remember when we were little kids...every time he would see a motorcycle he would say "motorcycle, motorcycle, vroom, vroom".....I also can recall when we lived next door to eachother (on Thomas Rd.), Jason and I dunked a cat into the goldfish pond out front and then stuck him in my parents' dryer!!! Thank God we couldn't reach the start button!!!

I will always remember "Jay" as a "Lady's Man"...and most importantly a TRUE SOLDIER through and through.....

YOU WILL BE MISSED TERRIBLY "JAY-POOH"!!!!!!!!!!!
