Raymond ESPOSITO Obituary

ESPOSITO, Raymond Raymond Esposito, 82, of Rocky Hill, formerly of Wethersfield, husband of Anne (Mastrangelo) Esposito, died Monday, (December 6, 2010) at Hartford Hospital. Born in the Bronx on June 3, 1928 to the late Neil and Anna (Policella) Esposito he lived in Greater Hartford for over fifty years. He attended Christopher Columbus High School where he was a star football and baseball player. He broke his leg playing football in high school and went on to try out for the New York Yankees Minor League system in the 1940s. He worked for his father and uncles in New York in their waste hauling business for several years. He met his wife Anne and they married on October 14, 1951. He decided that he wanted to raise a family in Connecticut and moved here in 1956 starting McCauley Enterprises, with his partner Charlie McCauley. With two trucks and determination he built one of the most successful businesses in the waste hauling industry. He was the first one in Connecticut to have an automatic garbage truck. He was a member of the Hartford Chamber of Commerce, a member of UNICO and many other local organizations. He was for many years a Little League coach and was always there to support his son's athletic teams. He was a quiet philanthropist and supporter of numerous charitable causes and community services among them, the American Lung Association, JDRF, CCMC Cancer Center, Wethersfield Baseball team, the Open Hearth Shelter and the House of Bread, just to name of few. First in Ray's life was his family and everything he did was for them. Trips to Misquamicut and Watch Hill, trips to Florida, Cape Cod and New York were numerous. The food trips to the New York are memorable in many people's minds and he always shared what he had with others. His love of food and enjoyment of life was evident in how he lived his life. "What good it is to have, if you don't share!" He was a man, an icon, and a man not to be forgotten. Besides his wife, he is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Donna and R. Jeffrey Hughes of Rocky Hill, three grandchildren, Raymond Paul Esposito and his wife Samantha of Wethersfield, Marisa Ann Sullivan and her husband, Brian of Charlottesville, VA and Matthew J. Hughes of Rocky Hill, his sister, Evelyn Volpe of Rocky Hill, his sister-in-law, Nancy Capenera, his cousin Carmine Esposito and his wife Rosalie and many other extended family members and friends. He was predeceased by his son, Neil R. Esposito. The funeral is Saturday, December 11, 2010 with a Mass of Christian Burial at 12 noon in the Church of the Incarnation, 544 Prospect St. Wethersfield. Everyone is asked to please go directly to church. Entombment will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Hartford. The family will receive relatives and friends on Friday from 3-7 p.m. at the D'Esopo Funeral Chapel, 277 Folly Brook Blvd. Wethersfield. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Raynbow Foundation, C/O Harvey & Horowitz, P.C., 1813 Silas Deane Highway, Rocky Hill, CT 06067. Ann, Donna, Matt and family:

My sincere condolences on Ray's passing. He was a great individual and most importantly a father figure for me and my children. Ray was always there whether in good times and bad times. As a fellow New Yorker, although I forgive him for not being from Brooklyn, he was a true professional and most importantly he cared about people. I will remember him always. He will always be "61" to me.

I did not know Ray except for a few meetings due to my friendship with Neil. Based on the limited interaction I had with him it was clear that Ray was a true gentleman. He treated others with respect and kindness. He made you feel special. You knew that his family was his first love. A man could look at Ray's life and derive insight and inspiration for his own. My sincere sympathy to his beloved family.

May God bless you and your family in this time of sorrow.

My deepest sympathys go out to Ray's immediate as well as extended family. Ray was one of my greatest influences not only as an employer but as a man. He helped me in more ways than I can ever express here but especially when my children were born with medical conditions. His quote of "how many houses can you own,how many cars can you drive, and how many steaks can you eat" still resonates with me today. I spent some of the best years of my life working for Ray and his family and would have done anything for him. I still tell storys of my time there and smile every single time. He will be greatly missed . To his wife, Anne, daughter Donna, son in law Jeff, and grandchildren, you will always be in my thoughts and prayers. David Hand
