LYNN MINTZ Obituary

MINTZ, LYNN GAIL (DARDICK), lived for 65 years and one day, and every moment was a gift to those who knew her. She died peacefully - just as she lived - on June 6th at her home in Miami surrounded by loving family and friends, including her husband of 43 years, Dr. Sanford Mintz, her daughter Rachel Minor (Sky), son Jeremy, and granddaughter Simone Minor. As a mother, Lynn faced the heartbreaking loss of her 10-year-old daughter Rebecca with resilience and grace, turning her own tragedy into a career helping others as a therapist. For 10 miraculous years she faced her own fight against cancer quietly and bravely. She faced a life full of challenges with light-hearted optimism, supreme tolerance and great patience. Lynn showed us life is full of joy and laughter is the best medicine. She is survived by her sister Elaine Weinbach (Phil), brother Gary Dardick (Jeanne), nieces and nephews, her "East Coast kids" Kevin and Leah Ackerman, and some of the closest friends a person could have. A celebration of her life will be held June 13th at 6:30 p.m. at the family's home: 8735 SW 118 Street. In lieu of flowers the family is requesting donations to Family Counseling Services of Greater Miami (Lynn's place of work, specifically The Journey Institute program) or Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. View this Guest Book at www. MiamiHerald.com/obituaries.

My deepest condolences to the Mintz family...
I just was made aware of this today.... It broke my heart. I had the pleasure of meeting Lynn and her wonderful family a few years back. She was such an icredible soul...She had this uncanny way of making one feel so at peace and ease..... Always so peaceful and kind to others. Someone who was a role model to all. Its amazing how after all this time... I was so affected by this terrible news. God bless her family today and always.

My deepest condolences to the family and friends. She was so vibrant, that it's hard to believe she is gone, and so young, too. She was always kind and such a comfort and helper to so many, including me. What a terrible loss.

I shared Lynn's office at FCS for a few years and always turned to her for guidance when needed. She always made me feel welcome and comfortable when I needed a gentle touch. I know her work impacted so many lives for the better, as I hope mine will. Her giggles echo down the hall...

Sincere condolences are extended to Sandy and family.

From the basement of Eads Hall, home of the Dept. of Psychology, where you and I were graduate students, doing rat behavior experiments in the ADVANCED EXPERIMENTAL PSYCH course taught by Dr. Robert Buckhout...

and the campus of Washington University, St. Louis, MO,

to the friendly Beth Or reconstructionist congregation in Kendall FL

and to your office on Red Road in South Miami FL ...

you and your family have had a special effect on us.

Lynn was a terrific lady!

We shared our fervent hope that Eretz Israel can overcome its jihadist enemies and that Jews can live peacefully in our homeland.

Lynn was for me the epitome of life. No one would have known her struggle with cancer because she was all about living and living to the fullest. Her grace, grit and gentleness were just part of her essence. This was a woman of soul...a very rare jewel. My deepest and heartfelt sympathy to Sandy and her children.

Lynn's courage in the face of loss and illness has always touched me deeply. She faced life with a quiet dignity, grace and a true zest for life. I often felt she was here for such a short time to teach us all. I have a feeling now that Lynn will continue to touch and teach me for the rest of my life. I want to be like her when I grow up. I am still in mourning even though I haven't seen Lynn for years. That is proof to me that some people stay in your thoughts and hearts for years because they are just that special and unique! I hope that all of your fabulous memories will stay with you as she smiles on your lives in new unique ways: think butterfies and rainbows.

Be kinder than necessary – this is how Lynn was naturally regardless of what she was going through. She was not only a colleague but a dear friend. I had the pleasure to work with her for the past nine years. Every day she was in the office she made sure to stop by to say “hello” and “how are you?” We had many long conversations over the years. I will always remember her smile and her laugh. I am blessed to have spent the time with her I did. She touched many peoples’ lives in various ways and has been an example to me of how to live life to the fullest and without regret. She had a “specialness” about her and brought light where there was darkness. Her light will shine forever. I love you and miss you dearly.

Beautiful, brave, smiling, smart, motherly, grandmotherly, politically aware. All of those words can be used to describe Lynn. She had the most loving and together family. She will be missed more than most.

Words can not express the loss that we feel at Family Counseling Services (www.familycounseling.org). Lynn was an inspiration to all of us. She worked for the Journey Institute with survivors of sexual violence for 12 years. She was loved by staff and her clients. She was my co-therapist and my friend. She was always smiling, never complained, made others feel at ease. She was such a proud mother and grandmother. I miss her greatly.
