MaeLynn Harris Obituary

MaeLynn Kartchner Harris, beloved wife, mother, daughter and friend, passed away quietly at home Jan. 31, 2011, from neuroendocrine cancer.
MaeLynn was born April 11, 1980, in Salt Lake City, Utah. She is the daughter of Jerry Charles Kartchner and Marie Hanks Kartchner. She attended school in Salt Lake City and graduated from Brighton High School in 1998. In 2002 she graduated from Utah State University with a major in public relations.
MaeLynn married Andrew Lee Harris of North Logan, Utah, on June 22, 2001, in the Jordan River LDS Temple. They made their home in Logan. They are the parents of five children: Kendall (8), Ellie (6), Triston (4), Sawyer (4), and Abigail (3).
MaeLynn was an amazingly sweet person who brought joy to whomever she met. She loved painting, being outdoors, and socializing. She will be remembered as a happy, fun-loving, kind, beautiful woman who loved life. She served faithfully in multiple callings in the LDS Church and had a firm and abiding testimony. Her children were her joy and happiness and she was an excellent mother.
As a family we would like to thank all of those who cared so lovingly for MaeLynn and her family during her illness. The kindness, effort, and generosity extended in her behalf were without limit and were greatly appreciated.
MaeLynn is survived by her husband and children, her parents, her sister, Jamie, and her maternal grandmother, Mae Hanks, for whom she was named. She is also survived by her in-laws, Lee and Pamela Harris, and her biological family, Andy and Lori Reese, Devan, Jaide and Tonia.

I'm not sure if I ever met Maelynn. We both graduated in Public Relations from USU a year apart. I may have had a class or two with her but I'm not sure. I do know however that she has had a lasting impression on my little sister Michelle Fitch. I am impressed with her and was near tears while reading about the ways she has influenced other people's lives. I am glad that she could be such a good friend to my little sister and I sincerely pray for her family, her husband and children especially, to be comforted at this time. I am so sorry for your loss because I can tell, she is an amazing woman. I wish I had known her. I'm sure I would have been changed for the better.

Maelyn, I don't know you and your family but share in the sadness that happens when loved ones leave us so early in life. I met your dad today at the cemetery and spoke with him briefly, I could tell in just those few moments how he adores you and your family. My son Jake is buried just above you across the way. My wife is buried in Logan cemetery, she passed away 3 months after delivering our 6th son. Jake died less than 2 years ago.We mourn those we miss dearly but find comfort in knowing we'll all be reunited soon. I feel such peace when I'm near Jake and am up in such a beautiful place. Blessings and prayers in your behalf and that of your family.

Maelynn,

I'm pretty sure that we went to every single school together from elementary school up to college. We were never super close, but whenever we saw each other we always said hi. At Brighton High you were always fun and kind, which is rare in high school :). You were also very bright. It was always fun to run into you around Utah State. I could tell that you are a wonderful mother and I know you'll be missed. My condolences to the family.

You were such a good friend, and always kind. You will be missed. It is always sad to see someone so young leave this life so early, but I know that you are free from pain and happy now. There is no doubt in my mind that you were welcomed by our Savior, and that your family will be given the strength and peace they need to press forward.

I was so fortunate to know Maelynn through her daughter's school and she was a wonderful, loving and involved mother. I am so sorry I didn't get to know her more - she had such a giving spirit. My thoughts are with her family.

I was a roommate with MaeLynn our freshman year of college. I have to admit that we didn't keep in great contact afterwards, but I've followed the blog during her illness. She was a wonderfully sweet friend and never had a bad thing to say about anyone. I'm sure that hasn't changed over the last few years since then.

My thoughts and prayers have been with her and your family, and will continue.

I didn't know Maelynn but she left a sweet and distinct impression on me at my husband's 10 year high school reunion. They were doing "person who has..." awards and when "person who has had the most children" came up, she ran to the front, beautiful and beaming, "I have five children!" She was so so proud of her children, it just exuded from her and I knew that she was a wonderful, proud, loving mother. After the reunion, my husband and I were talking about how nice she was- he said she was one of the nicest people he knew in high school. "She has always been like that," he said. I just thought it was really sweet to see such a positive and loving example of motherhood at a high school reunion, far more impressive then any other recognitions. She is a true example to me. My heart and prayers go out to her family and children. A sweet, guardian mother angel is sure to be watching over them.

Mae was my childhood friend that insisted our friends make a pact to always be friends, i think she even had us all sign a contract. She loved making time capsule's and after a week of hard waiting, we'd go out and discover them again with astonished joy of our long lost treasure, which often included notes of friendship toward each other. Her true faith shined as a mother , allowing her children to be who they are without fear. she wasn't "a helicopter mom" her calmness was awe inspiring to me. If i can learn something from Mae it would be to emmulate the kind of listener she was. Mae listened with her whole heart which was the greatest gift to me and every life she lit up, never judging, always loving, she had so much genuine natural beauty and soul. She always has been an angel.

Maelynne, we will miss your sweet smile and fun personality. We loved painting with you in our Northern Utah Tole Society chapter. You will always be remembered as a gifted and special painter, along with those adorable twins you brought to chapter meeting. We know our Father in Heaven has a special assignment for you and that you will be watching over those beautiful children.
