Nancy Scharf Obituary

Nancy Granquist Scharf, 80, of Boise, died at home on November 22, 2010. Nancy was born March 3, 1930 in Brooklyn, New York and lived briefly in Finland before returning to the US with her family in 1933. She married Walter Scharf in 1955 in Brooklyn; they were married for 51 years. The family moved from New York to Boise in 1972. Nancy worked as a manager for Idaho First National Bank (later US Bank) until her retirement in 1995. She belonged to Redeemer Lutheran Church, where she served on Altar Guild and many other committees. She was devoted to her grandchildren and enjoyed reading and gardening; her tomatoes were the talk of the neighborhood. Nancy always had time for a friend and was kind and generous to everyone she knew. Her glass was always half full. She traveled frequently; her favorite vacation destination was Hawaii. Nancy was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Scharf, brother Kent, and parents, Oscar and Hilda Granquist, and is survived by her children, Melinda (Chris) of Sacramento, CA; Walter Jr., Richard, and Lisa, of Boise; and Peter, of Redlands, CA; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. In accordance with her wishes, Nancy was cremated. A celebration of Nancy's life will be held later in the spring of 2011. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to St. Luke's Hospice or Redeemer Lutheran Church. Arrangements were under the direction of Summers Funeral Homes, Boise Chapel.

Nanc was like a mother to me. The 25 years I knew her were enriched for having her in them.
I aspire to be like you mom. I was so glad that not being married to your son anymore didn't break up my relationship with you. I always felt I would forever and always be your daughter-in-law and friend. I miss you, your laugh, your wisdom and your guidance. I know you are with us still in spirit, I see it in my daughters eyes. Your life lives on through the children who love you.

Nancy loved her grandchildren more than life itself and would have done anything for them. You will be greatly missed.

I have known Nancy for over 35 years and never saw her frown. Nancy gave all she had to those in her life and neveer asked for anything in returnn. Because of Nancy this life has been more joyful. I will miss you my friend.

Nancy was a delightfully sunny person. She and Walt were long time acquaintances through St. Luke's.
