Robert Soeters Obituary

SOETERS, ROBERT G.-

Of Jackson, MI, went to be with his Lord whom he served on December 16, 2010. He was 81-years-old. Born in Kalamazoo on July 27, 1929 to Marinus and Willemina Soeters, "Bob" was a lifelong resident of Michigan. He attended the University of Michigan and was a graduate of Western Michigan University. His work as an architect and engineer led him to a long career with Consumers Power Company where he worked various construction and management positions until his retirement in 1985. Ever devoted to his church and family, Bob served as a deacon and elder in the Reformed Church of America and the Presbyterian Church. He also served his country as a naval officer during the Korean War, and with great pride shared stories of being at sea with his children and grandchildren. Bob was a loving husband to his wife of 58 years, Jean (Bos); and a wonderful father to his three children, Jeanine (George Mack) of Jenison, MI, William (Lisa Venner) of Chapel Hill, NC, and Robert (Brenda McDonald) of Holland, MI. He was blessed to have 11 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren; all of whom will miss his warmth, humor, and hugs. For the past 20 years, Bob looked forward to spending warm winters at his home in Hutchinson Island, FL where he enjoyed the game of tennis with family and friends until his 78th year. Cremation has taken place at his request, and a Memorial Service will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, December 22nd at First Presbyterian Church in Jackson, MI. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Bob's memory may be made to the American Parkinson Disease Assn. Inc., 135 Parkinson Ave., Staten Island N.Y.10305 (www.apdaparkinson.org) or First Presbyterian Church of Jackson, MI. His family will be accepting condolences from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Westminster Room of the Church. www.Mlive.com/obits

Dear Jean, Memories of our special times together, here in Jackson and also at our condos on Hutchinson Island, will last forever. It was you and Bob who "lured" Marv and I to spend winters on that island in paradise. Bob and Marv are now sharing another place in paradise.

My thoughts and prayers are with you and your whole family! In sympathy and love -- Jean

We haven't seen or been in touch with Bob for many years but I remember him as a friendly man of integrity. May the Lord bless his family and receive Bob joyfully into His Kingdom.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the Soeters family at this most difficult time. We have fond memories of Bob during our years on Smiley Way. He was a kind and gentle man, a loving husband and father, and we feel honored to have known him.
