Today for so reason I started getting flash backs from my childhood and I thought about Mrs. Starms I attended ECC and DLC. I loved when Mrs. Starms would come visit. She's reminded me so much of my granny. She treated all of the students like her own. 2024 & she's still missed!

Ms. Starms was sweetest and most humble women I could've met. I am glad to call one of the schools with her namesake my Alma Mater. "Respect yourself honey. Daddy ain't got much money. Only a little to get by. These words I say to you, respect yourself honey." I can't stop crying.

Mrs. Starms was one of a kind. She always had something positive to share. I'll always remember the time she helped so many of us (caregivers) to find our way at Lorraine P. Carter's Daycare and to become good mothers and teachers. Thank you Mrs Starms. 1980-1985

To the Starms Family,
I had the pleasure of working at Frances Starms Early Childhood when it first opened. I was excited when she would come into the building just as the children were. I felt that she was an inspiration for all and a wonderful role model for teachers. I will always remember her wonderful storytelling and her loving hugs for the children. She has left us but her wonderful inspirations are living in those that she touched. God Bless the family and know that she will never be forgotten.

Ms. Starms was my mother's supervisor with the Head Start program when my mother worked at Palmer School in Milwaukee. I still remember sitting at her feet, with the other children when I had a day off of schoo, and listening to her stories. I am sure that this is one of the reasons I became a school librarian at the beginning of my career with MPS. I will also never forget the huge hug I would always get from her whenever she would visit my first MPS school, Lloyd Street. It was always fun to talk to her and to see the faces of the children as she told her stories. She could always reach them and get them excited about learning.

Mrs. Strams You were a truly remarkable woman who left a mark on everyone she encounter. My daughter also attended Starms ecc and dlc and because of mrs. starms my daughter loves poetry and has continued her poetry writing in high school. My daughter still knows her poems of respect yourself and remember sitting in Mrs. Starms lap while she read to her. Even though God has called you to be with him now. I know her spirit will be watching over us and guiding us. Our family will truly miss her presence.

My family , the Hartman's, attended Frances Starms DLC way back in 1995 thru 1999. When they found out about her passing they sang the song they always sang in school. "Frances Starms is a Wonderful woman". She truly was and it's a shame kids today will not meet her and benefit from her wisdom.

Mrs. Starms was one of the "founders" of Milwaukee's Black communities. She and her husband, Robert were one of the grown-ups in my life when I was growing up in Milwaukee, who visited my parents in our home and included me as one of the first girls in the Northside YMCA's Summer Fun Club.
She was a great storyteller and writer and I admired her all my life. It's good to see she got the recognition she deserved with the naming of 3 schools. She will be dearly missed by my family.

Mrs. Starms was a hard working and dedicated woman who stood up for what she believed. I will not forget her performance and poems she sat and read at the Title I African-American program at Sarah Scott middle school. We will miss you, the children will miss you. May God be with your family in your time of sorrow.

To the Starms Family,
While working at Starms DLC, I had the pleasure of knowing Mrs. Starms. She was such an inspiring phenomenal woman. When the children would see her they would start running towards her wanting a hug. She'd smile and hug each one as if it were their last. She was such a blessing to many.
May the God of all comfort be with you during this difficult time.

To Sheila and the Starms family
While I've only know Aunt Francis for approximately the last five years, it was truly a blessing knowing her. I will not EVER have another Christmas and not think of her warm smile and kindness.

Crossing the Bar
Sunset and evening star,
And one clear call for me!
And may there be no moaning of the bar,
When I put out to sea,
But such a tide as moving seems asleep,
Too full for sound and foam,
When that which drew from out the boundless deep
Turns again home.
Twilight and evening bell,
And after that the dark!
And may there be no sadness of farewell,
When I embark;
For tho' from out our bourne of Time and Place
The flood may bear me far,
I hope to see my Pilot face to face
When I have crost the bar.

To the Starms Family, Mrs. Starms was such an influential person in my life. When she was my kindergarten teacher at Franklin Pierce School, she saw a gift in me at the age of 5, nurtured that gift, encouraged my parents to get me into classes, and helped to mold me into the person I am today. Every time I receive a favorable review in the newspaper for one of my theatrical performances, I always thank God for bringing Mrs. Starms into my life. The world was richer for her being in it.
