To Jared's family: My husband worked with Melanie in Oklahoma and we got to know Jared on many "double dates" with them. Jared was funny and warm...sometimes quiet; always kind. It was obvious how much he enjoyed teaching, coaching and scouting. We share our deepest sympathies and will continue to pray for you and Melanie.

It was always a pleasure to work with Jared. My first meeting occurred at camp when Jared was teaching adults taking the BSA lifeguard class. Even as a young man he displayed confidence and comfort working with adults. Thank you for sharing Jared with us.

Mike & Cindy, my sons and I are very sad to hear about Jared, he had a impact on all of us. I remember him taking extra time with me checking off T222 merit badge books at camp. My sons remember watching him and looking for him and others as they entered Lone Bear, and his special relationship with Fast Squirrel.

I remember him at Sawmill just this last 6th session. I was going through Brave and he really helped me and I looked up to him highly. I remember i shook his hand at Closing Night Campfire and he said "See you next year, Colin!"
I'm really going to miss him. He was a great Mic-O-Say advisor and camp commissioner. I will not forget him at all.

I met Jared many years ago when I was nearing the end of my 12 summers on camp staff at Bartle. Jared was still a camper and was considering working on the staff. Jared sought me out for a conversation about this, asking me lots of thoughtful questions about what it was like being on the camp staff. I remember being very struck by this at the time, thinking this young man had the potential to be a truly great staff member and Tribesman. I had the pleasure of working on staff with Jared the next summer or two after that, and saw that my initial impression was not wrong. I had never had a young man who made such an impression on me at such an early age. My last year on camp staff was 1992, and I don't think I have been in touch with Jared since then, but after reading all the comments here and learning about his camp staff and teaching history, I can see that Jared made a profound and positive impression on many people in his too-short life. So while he is not physically among us any longer, he obviously lives on in the hearts and minds of the many he touched. I am grateful to have known him, even those many years ago, for he reminded me that there are young people who aspire to do truly great things. He certainly succeeded in doing them.
My condolences to Jared's family. Please know that there are many who pray for your well being and peace.

To all of the family I had the honor of working a short time with Jared on camp staff the past two summers. He always went above and beyound to help staff and campers. I had a problem while at camp he was quick to get me what I needed so i could do my job effectively. I all so worked with Jared this year on a Brave workday; he showed me how to run a workday with young men. My sons troop(155 NS) remembers him opening the pool early and closeing it late so all of the boys could finsh there requirments for swimming and life saveing merit badges.Jared will be missed by all, and will be with us all, always.

My deepest condolences go out to Jared's wife and family. I'm so sorry for your loss. I had the honor of knowing him most of my life. We started our schooling together in kindergarden, at Havencroft Elementary, and finished together with our graduation from Olathe South High School. He was an amazing person! To his wife, I too have been married for 7 years and I can not begin to imagine what you must be going through right now. My thoughts and prayers are with all of you right now.

This was my son's first Boy Scout summer camp and we both camped during this year's last session at Bartle. We just ate meals with Jared, and didn't really get to know him, but from reading the guest book he must have been a very special young man and an exceptional example of what Scouting is all about. He touched the lives of many people in a very short time. My son and I are better people from crossing paths with him.

Mike, Cindy, Justin & Julie,
As you know we met Jared and all of you through Scouting. This was one of the most enjoyable experiences of my life and I fondly remember and recall it often. The best of Scouting is teaching young men and letting them run their program for themselves. Most of the time we adults were just faciltators trying to keep out of their way! Jared was the best example of Scouting that I've known; he was a leader by example and by teaching what he learned to other young men. He was an excellent example of an Eagle Scout, always willing to help others and lead them in the path of Scouting. He's the reason that Curt joined Scouting! We are honored to know him and his warm, sincere friendship and we will always remember him. I am certain in God's plan Jared will be a star just as he was for all of us. We are all thinking of you and send our deepest sympathies to all in your family.

To Jareds family, I am so very sorry for your loss. I really enjoyed the little time I had known Jared and thought the world of him. I know that ZGod used him in many positive ways especiaaly at camp. I though he was a funny and entertaining young man. He will be greatly missed. God Bless you and your family and His he leaves behind. Although this past summer I was Chaplain at Lone Star, I did get to see him and visit momentarily with him. He was an inspiration to me.

I just found out about Jareds passing from a post on Face Book, the ironic thing is, 4 days ago I tried looking him up on Face Book, God made me think of him for some reason. Although I have not seen him since the 8th grade, there was always a little piece of me that every now and then thought of my first boyfriend in the 7th grade. I am so sorry for everyones loss. He sounds like he turned out to be quite the young man, well done Mom and Dad.

Dear Mike, Cindy and Family, my wife and I were blessed to have Jared as one of our fellow Wood Badgers while you Mike served as our our Course Director. This led us to know Jared while at Bartle even better than before. This past year, one of my best memories of Jared (besides giving you grief at our WB course, Mike) was when I had the opportunity to observe Jared addressing called Braves in Saw Mill. Mick was being called away from the reservation, so Jared was asked to fill-in (big shoes, yes, but Jared did very well). One of many things he told them was that he was among many that had chosen the profession of teaching school, not only because it dove-tailed with the Scout Oath and Law, but because it also allowed him the good fortune of being on camp staff at Bartle each summer. There he could teach young men in order to influence their lives to where they would hopefully grow up to be men of good character and to be good citizens in what many sometimes feel is a hopeless world. My being nearly 50 and recently switching to a career of teaching, Jared's comment struck a chord in me that resonates to this day. Little did we all know that he would be taken from us so soon. We will always remember his kind demeanor, quick wit and heart of a servant. We all loved him. It is well, for my brothers carry on...

Mike and Family,
Jared was a pretty good kid... Due to the limited space I can not share some LAKE FRONT story's of Jared's. From the teacher... How many moon's does this earth have... Jared had his own answer and didn't mind sharing... Everyone needs to smile during rough times like this!
I spent several summers with Jared and more leadership, woodbadge, etc... events than I care to count with Mike! One very cool but sunny fall my forehead brunt so bad Mike gave me the name "Crusty" ... that was a great weekend.
The common thing between Mike & I and those in the scouting family is that we have spent time with his son/s and watched them grow!
Each day as we get a little older, having our children with us equals another day in paradise, we are just to blind to notice.
Enjoy each day we have together. Mike on the next over night, on those nights that you can never count the 1,000 stars. Jared will be there... saying Thanks DAD you were awesome, you led the way for me, now let me lead the way for you!

God bless Jared's family!!!! I am very shocked to her about one of my favorite former class mates, Jared and his passing. He was a very special person and a beloved friend that I will always keep close to my heart. And the fond memories I have about Jared and the unforgetable experiences that we once shared together as teens have always been very valuable, but now they are absolutly priceless!!! Jared loved everyone for who they were.To him it didn't matter how popular you were, what religion you practiced, wether you were bald, or had the brightest pink hairever,, if you were rich or poor, Fat or thin, If your were smart or mentaly chalenged, He treated everyone with the exact same respect!! And even though he was quit a popular student, Jared was never ashamed to be your fiend, no matter what clic you belonged to, and no matter what any one else had to say!!!!!!
I am truely sorry for your loss, especialy since God broke the mold when he invented your son JARED!!!!!!
Please remember when you loose a loved one, It is not goodbye, It's "See you later!!!!!!!!!
P.S> JARED WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN, tOGETHER WE CAN ALL KEEP jARED'S SPIRIT ALIVE!!!!
