Ann Bergin Obituary
SR. ANN REGIS BERGIN, formerly Josephine Mary Bergin, a member of the Sisters of St. Dominic of Blauvelt, New York, for the past 74 years, died on May 26, 2011 in St. Martin de Porres Infirmary. She was 92 years of age. Sr. Ann was born to William Patrick Bergin and Mary Ann Spearman on January 31, 1919 in New York City. She entered the Sisters of St. Dominic on February 2, 1937 from St. Pius Parish, Bronx, New York. Sr. Ann received the Dominican habit on August 16, 1937, professed her first vows on August 26, 1938, and final vows on August 21, 1941. Sister held the B.A. in Liberal Arts from Manhattan College and the M.A. in English Literature from Fordham University, Bronx, New York. Sr. Ann's many years of active ministry were devoted to the education of youth as teacher and principal. Sister taught at the following schools: Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament Academy, Goshen, N.Y., 1939-1942; St. Mary Star of the Sea, City Island, 1942-1946; St. Benedict's, 1946-1952; Our Savior's, 1952-1958; Holy Spirit, 1958-1965, and St. Anselm's, 1965-1969 all in the Bronx. She was Principal of the following schools: St. Margaret School, Pearl River, N.Y. 1969-1972, Resurrection School, Manhattan, 1972-1975, Our Lady of Good Counsel School, Manhattan, 1975-1984, and Christ the King School Bronx, 1984 -1992. In addition, Sister served at Christ the King Parish, Bronx, N.Y. 1992-1995 and St. Mary Star of the Sea Parish, City Island, 1995-1997 as Parish Minister. Sister served as a tutor at St. Raymond Girls' High School, Bronx, N.Y., 1998-1999. From 1999 - 2007, Sr. Ann provided supportive services to the Congregation, and in 2007 due to ill health, she retired to the St. Martin de Porres Infirmary. In addition to her religious congregation, Sister was predeceased by her brother, Fr. Thomas Bergin of the Archdiocese of New York, and her sister, Sr. Paulita Marie Bergin, S.C. WAKE: Tuesday, 3-8 p.m. on May 31, 2011 EVENING PRAYER: 6 p.m. MASS OF CHRISTIAN BURIAL: Wednesday, 10:30 a.m. on June 1, 2011 BURIAL: St. Dominic's Convent Cemetery. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Sisters of St. Dominic, Blauvelt, New York.

The Manhattan College alumni community shares the grief, and is now praying for our fellow alumni and the family at this time. The Alumni Office has been informed. As well as the Jasper Jottings community that I personally can reach. We are all a little poorer now. "No man is an island, entire of itself ... any man's death diminishes me". We are sorry for your loss.

Sr. Ann Regis was my eighth grade teacher and an inspiration to me. I am grateful that I knew her. She will be in my prayers.
