Scott Burton Obituary

BURTON, SCOTT J.

Scott J. Burton of Ridgewood, NJ, formerly of New City, NY, passed away suddenly on July 10, 2011 at Springfield Hospital in VT. He recently held the position of Commissioner of Environmental Management and Engineering for the Town of Orangetown and prior had worked for Pfizer In Pearl River. Scott, born October 4, 1968, was born to James and Patricia Burton and raised in New City, NY. He was a very proud graduate of Clarkstown South HS and Manhattan College where he earned a Bachelors degree in Civil Engineering, cum laude et Al, and later earned his Masters Degree in Environmental Engineering. The friends Scott made in both high school and college remained life-long and they shared many fun moments and escapades that became the source of many stories whenever they were together. Scott met his wife Christine Moran at Manhattan College and they were married in August of 1996 at St. Aedan's in Pearl River. They were blessed with three boys, twins Christopher and Matthew in 2003 and Daniel in 2006. Scott adored his boys and they thought the world of him. He could always be found with the boys in tow doing everything and anything. Scott will always be remembered for his love of life and his devotion to his family. Scott is also survived by his sister Barbara Sangenito (Fred) of Marietta, GA; brother Michael Burton (Julia) of Chappaqua; sister JoAnn Neugebauer (Paul) of Orangeburg and his loving nieces and nephews Michael and Daniel Sangenito, Kyle & Samantha Burton and Jessica & Nicole Neugebauer, all of whom will miss their Uncle Scott deeply. Scott is joining his mother and father, whom he missed dearly, in heaven. Calling hours will be from 4-8PM on Thursday, July 14 at Wyman-Fisher Funeral Home in Pearl River, NY. (Any special stories of Scott you would like to share can be typed and brought to the wake.) The funeral mass will be Friday at 10AM at St. Aedan's Church, 23 Reid Drive, Pearl River, NY. Internment will follow at St. Anthony's Cemetery in Nanuet, NY. In lieu of flowers, the family is setting up a college fund for the boys. If interested, a check made out to JoAnn Neugebauer can be mailed to: Burton, P.O. Box 403, Orangeburg, NY 10962.

I knew Scott from our time at Manhattan College where we lived in the same building and graduated together. I remember him as a fun loving guy and a very good student. We hadn't seen each other since we graduated but it is nice to hear that he had a wonderful family and successful career. It is tragic that he was taken from them at such a young age and my deepest condolences are with his family.

The Manhattan College alumni community shares the grief, and is now praying for our fellow alumni and the family at this time. The Alumni Office has been informed. As well as the Jasper Jottings community that I personally can reach. We are all a little poorer now. "No man is an island, entire of itself ... any man's death diminishes me". We are sorry for your loss.

p.s., please let me know about the college fund details so that I can spread the word to the Jasper Jottings community.
