Erasmia Smith Obituary

Erasmia "Roz" Smith Naples, FL Erasmia "Roz" Smith, age 89, passed away peacefully on November 12, 2010 in Dewitt, Michigan. Roz was born December 31, 1920 in Oak Park, Illinois the daughter of John Ntokos and Angeline Cornelius Ntokos, the youngest of three children. Roz had a very successful career with Sears Roebuck & Co. Inc. as a National Buyer for Womens Sportswear and Lingerie, and worked in Chicago and New York City. It was at Sears Roebuck Co. that she met her husband Thom Smith. They married June 10, 1965 and he preceded her in death in December of 2008. She earned her pilots license and they both enjoyed piloting their Beechcraft Bonanza airplane throughout the United States and Caribbean Islands. Roz and Thom lived on Lake Shore Drive in Chicago before retiring to the Florida Keys and later Naples. She then discovered sailing, fishing, snorkeling, and became an active golfer. They enjoyed showing family slide shows of their extensive travels through her parents native Greece, France, South Africa and Central America. Roz enjoyed watching professional sports, especially the Chicago Bears- she attended many games over the years. She learned to sew from her mother, a gifted seamstress, and was an excellent cook. Roz was raised in a close knit Greek family and had a generous soul and found joy and happiness in her husband and family. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Demitrius, her husband, and Thom's eldest son Eric. Roz is survived by her brother Sophocles (Geri), Thom's two children Greg (Barbara) Smith of Salt Lake City, Utah, and Tracy (Jim) Zervos of Holton, Michigan; grandchildren Carl(Simona), Phillip, Andrew, Jaimie(Alex) and Peter; great grandchildren Sean, Riley, and Halle Erasmia her namesake. Her loss is immeasureable, surpassed only by the legacy of love she leaves behind for us to carry on. Private services will be held at Arlington Cemetery in Virginia later this spring where Roz with join her beloved Thom.

Roz played a lovely role in my life. Through the many years that I dated Eric, she referred to me fondly as her 'daughter in law'. She was an elegant lady but never pretentious. She adored Thom as witnessed as simply as how she looked at him. I have fond memories of how we first met-she and Thom flew into Marco Island, Florida and boarded Eric and I and flew down to Key West for lunch. Her love of family was ever so grand. I am so comforted that she passed so peacefully and in the loving company of Jaimie and Halle. Blessings to you all

Roz was my mentor of organization! She was a kind and loving lady who enjoyed everything she did, especially with Thom. She was always there for him! Now she has joined him into eternity! I have many fond memories of this very grand lady who loved life!
