Gouzie, 86
WESTBROOK -- Philip Joseph Gouzie, 86, of Pennell Street, Westbrook, died at the Barron Center in Portland, on Sunday, April 24, 2011.
He was born in Westbrook, the son of Adjutor and Laura (Lavigne) Gouzie. He attended local schools.
During World War II he was in the Air Force, 1390th A.A.F. Base Unit. He was a Military Policeman. He worked at the S.D. Warren Paper Co., now Sappi, for 45 years, retiring in 1987.
Philip married Lorraine Bouthillette on June 21, 1947. He was a communicant of St. Hyacinth Church, now St. Anthony's. Philip was a member of the Elks Club #188 of Portland and the American Legion Post 197 of Westbrook.
Philip loved working with his brothers remodeling and building homes as a hobby. He made arts and crafts, which he gave to friends, family, and their children. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and bowling.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Lorraine Gouzie of Westbrook; children, Mrs. Simone Lachance and husband Ronald, Mrs. Sharon Lewis and husband Ted; grandchildren, Steven Lachance and wife Laurie, Jeffrey Lachance and wife Libby, Laura Peterson and husband Jeff, Michael Hudson and wife Magdalena; great-grandchildren, Ashlee Lachance, Caryleigh Lachane, Alexa Lachance, Sophia Lachance, Madison Legassey, Bryant Peterson, Carley Peterson, Brady Peterson, and Gabriela Peterson; a brother, Armand Gouzie of Florida, sisters, Loretta Hayer of Sanford and Lorraine Davis of Westbrook; plus many nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours will be from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday at Blais & Hay Funeral Home, 35 Church St., Westbrook, where a funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday. Interment will be in St. Hyacinth Cemetery at a later date.

Simone:

So sorry to hear about your dad. One of my memories of him was when he used to bring you "Chicken Caccitore" from Maria's Restaurant in Westbrook! He was always so gracious and nice. My father was there I am sure, to greet him in Heaven!
