Charlotte Conlan Obituary

Charlotte Dale Conlan was born July 3, 1928 in West Chester, Pa., and passed away on Jan. 24, 2011. Her parents were Casper Padmore and Charlotte Cavanna Whitten. She attended Wilmington Friends School, then Edgewood College. She married Charles Edward Conlan in 1948 and they had four daughters. Dale was very active with the Freedom's Foundation in the late 1960s. The Conlan family resided in Haverford, Pa., until 1970, when they moved aboard their custom-built 56 foot ketch, the Limmershin. Dale and Charles spent the next 19 years sailing the Mediterranean Sea, the Black Sea, the Caribbean, the Bahamas, the Chesapeake, and New England coastlines. They were based out of Gibson Island, Md., and Water Island in St. Thomas. Dale was the best "hunter and gatherer" in some of the greatest markets in the world. In 1989, Dale and Charles decided to move back ashore, but a boat always remained in their lives. When they were not on a boat, their winters were spent in Miami, Fla., and summers in Newtown Square, Pa. Charles passed in 1995, leaving a huge void in Dale's life. She moved permanently back to the Main Line in 2005, where she resided at Beaumont in Bryn Mawr, and Sunrise of Paoli. The care and love she received at Sunrise was truly wonderful, and very much appreciated. Dale was the much beloved mother of Charlotte Conlan Dixon of Devon, Pa., Cavanna Graves (her wonderful caregiver) of Wayne, Pa., Ann McCarthy of Telluride, Colo., and Alexandria P. Conlan of Salt Lake City, Utah. Dale was blessed with six grandsons, one granddaughter, and two great-grandsons. She was truly amazing. A celebration of Dale's life will take place in May 2011. Arrangements by The Donohue Funeral Home, 366 W. Lancaster Avenue, Wayne, Pa. 19087, 610- 989-9600, www.donohuefuneralhome.com.
