Elizabeth Ausfeld Obituary

Elizabeth Upchurch Ausfeld (Lib), age 83, died Tuesday, June 25, 2013, after a long illness. Sara Elizabeth Upchurch was born in Montgomery, Alabama on July 12, 1929, to the late James Taylor Upchurch, Sr. and the late Eleanor Roche Upchurch. She grew up near Cloverdale Park in Montgomery, where she graduated from Sidney Lanier High School in 1947 and attended Huntington College. In 1949 she married Walter Tesmer Ausfeld, Sr., with whom she celebrated 55 years of marriage before his death in 2004. In Montgomery, Lib and Walter were active members of Westminster Presbyterian Church, where Lib taught Sunday School, sang in the choir, and served as Westminster's first female Deacon. She held various positions in the Women of the Church, including Circle Chairman and President, and then was honored in 1971 with a Life Membership to WOC, now known as Presbyterian Women. The couple moved to Dunwoody, Georgia in 1971. As a 42-year member of Shallowford Presbyterian Church in Atlanta, Mrs. Ausfeld served as an Elder, taught Sunday School, and served as Bible Moderator for The Circle of Love for over twenty years. Besides her many church activities, Mrs. Ausfeld enjoyed attending Auburn football games, playing the piano, working in her flower garden, playing bridge, and reading a good book; but her greatest joy was spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In 2008, Mrs. Ausfeld relocated to Sunrise of Ivey Ridge in Johns Creek, GA, where she resided until her death. She is survived by her children Barbara & Edward Hubbard of Peachtree Corners, GA, Carol & Greg Wright of Johns Creek, GA, and Walter & Tonya Ausfeld of Duluth, GA; grandchildren Kristin Hubbard, David & Nicki Hubbard, Ashley Hubbard (& fiancé Jay Moynihan); Jason & Katie Wright, Bryan & Brie Wright, Chad & Lauren Wright; Elizabeth (Ausfeld) & Patrick Daugherty and Erick Ausfeld. Her great-grandchildren are Avery Hubbard and Taylor, Kyle, Madeline, and Mary Thompson Wright. Other survivors include her brothers Jim Upchurch of Montgomery and John & Ellen Upchurch of Smyrna, TN; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. She is predeceased by her sisters Eleanor & Red Kennedy; Irene & Drehr McDonald; and sister-in-love Jean Upchurch. The memorial service will be held at 2pm on Tuesday, July 2nd at Shallowford Presbyterian Church, with a reception to follow. Visitation will be held on Monday, July 1st from 6pm until 8pm, at H. M. Patterson & Son Arlington Chapel, 173 Allen Rd., Sandy Springs, GA. Memorial gifts can be made to The American Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 11454, Alexandria, VA 22312.
