I'm Gail, a good friend of Kristen's. I only met Erik once, at Kristen's MBA grad party in Washington. I remember him as someone with a good sense of humor and he reminded me of foo man choo with his goatee.

My thoughts and prayers are with all of you during this extremely difficult time. I'm so sorry for your loss. My heart goes out to you.

Mr. and Mrs. Olsen....my dughter, Julianne, was in high school with Erik, and when he worked at CNB, he would always ask about her when I went in to make a deposit. He was so personable and friendly, with a lovely smile. I cannot even begin to imagine your pain and suffering at this time, but please know you are all in my thoughts and prayers.

October 22, 2007

To the Olsen Family,
You are in our thoughts and prayers. We were saddened by the news of Erik's death. We met Erik at Starbucks in Summerville. It started with a "Hi, how are you?" and led to many laughs and inpromptu conversations. Erik kept us posted on his progress in school and his goal of becoming a physical therapy assistant. He was a bright spot in our day. We rallied for him constantly because we knew his heart was so big and that his human spirit touched people in "just the right way." Erik was without arrogance or pretense. If he had a break and we were at Starbucks, he'd sit and chat with us. He truly had the ability to transcend age barriers; he related to our 19 y.o. son as well as he related to us. A common bond between Frank and Erik was the "Sopranos"; after each episode they would discuss what might happen next (they also related to the Italians in the show). Erik made the best cappacinos and lattes; in fact, after he left Starbucks, I stopped ordering them because no one got it right - only Erik.
I know that your memories of the good that Erik did and those he touched in his short life will remain with you through the grieving process. I also know that Erik is somewhere doing something special -
God's peace
Cookie & Frank Muscarella

PS Just wanted all of you to know that Erik spoke with pride and love about all of you. He talked about the love and support you gave him; he told us about your trip to Italy; he told us about your help with his English papers.

Paul, Joanie, & Krissy: All of you are in my thoughts and prayers during this difficult time. I'll always remember the summers at the beach, waiting for the weeks that Erik and cousin Tony would be in town for a visit with nana and poppa. From the wiffle ball games to the block parties I'll cherish the memories. Erik will be missed but remains in our hearts.

This note comes to you from the Popcorn Lady, long ago touched by your scholarly influence of my daughter Diana '00.

Speaking from my own personal experience, words cannot describe the grief a parent must endure after the loss of a child of any age. I pray that God will surround you with the love and support you need at a time like this. If any of you would like to talk, please don't hesitate to write. You have touched the lives of many--may those blessed now reach out to touch all of you.
