Kenneth Nix Obituary

NIX Dr. Kenneth Gordon Nix, Sr., a retired internist, died Saturday, March 17, 2012 of heart failure at home. He was 88. Dr. Nix was born in Brunson, South Carolina on October 27, 1923. He graduated from Wofford College, Spartanburg, South Carolina in 1944, and Tulane Medical School in 1949. Afterwards, he completed internal medicine residency training at Charity Hospital, New Orleans, where he served as chief medical resident. Dr. Nix worked in private practice at Baptist Hospital, New Orleans, where he was president of the medical staff from 1988-1989. He was also a member of the clinical faculty of Louisiana State University School of Medicine. He married Kathryn Krieger in 1950. Dr. Nix was a long-time member of St. Andrews Episcopal Church, where he served as usher, member of the vestry, and member of the school board. He was a member of the New Orleans Country Club for over 50 years. He retired from private practice of internal medicine in 1990 after 40 years. Dr. Nix is survived by his wife of 62 years, Kathryn Krieger Nix; his four children and their spouses, Dr. Kenneth G Nix, Jr. (Pat), William Nix (Violet), Dr. Louis Nix (Anne); Kathy Ruckstuhl (Russell); eight grandchildren, Elizabeth, David, Robin, Emily, Abby, Russell, Megan, Carlos; and one great grandchild, Henry. Visitation will be held at Charlstrom House, St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, on Wednesday, March 21 from 10-11 am, followed by funeral service at 11 am. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Andrew's Episcopal Church or St. Joseph's Hospice.

We were saddened to learn of the death of Dr. Nix. We offer our thoughts and prayers to the family. We shared such a wonderful time with the family growing up and know that Dr. Nix was truely loved and will be missed dearly.
