Royston Shiley Obituary

Royston Lee Shiley, 80, of Edinburg, widower of Jean Rinker Shiley, died Monday, December 5, 2011.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, December 9, 2011, 11:00 a.m. at the Edinburg United Methodist Church by Rev. Steve McMillion. Burial will follow at Cedarwood Cemetery.

Mr. Shiley was born September 1, 1931 at Relief, Virginia, the son of the late James Samuel and Attie Newcombe Shiley.

He served his country in the United States Army in the Korean Conflict. He worked as a salesman for the Irvin's Candy Company. He was a member of the Edinburg United Methodist Church.

Mr. Shiley is survived by two daughters, Judy Thorpe of Woodstock, her companion, John Bauserman of Maurertown and Vickie Jean Shiley of Edinburg; a sister, Frances Eagle of Brunswick, Maryland; a granddaughter, Nicole Braithwaite and her husband Clint of Gore; and a great-granddaughter, Sydney Jean Braithwaite.

The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Dellinger Funeral Home, Woodstock.

The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Edinburg United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 310, Edinburg, VA 22824.

I always enjoyed living next door to your Grandparents on Water Street & have many memories when your Dad & MoM would come with you two girls to join all the extended family for the Christmas holiday. Judy and Family: Jack and I are so sorry for your loss. Your dad was a good man with a great sense of humor and warmth. I'll miss seeing him for his weekly visits to the branch. Please find comfort in knowing that your mom was there waiting for him with open arms and he is now at peace. Probably even playing a round of golf.
