Hubert Livers Obituary

Hubert ``Bud' passed away peacefully, Saturday, April 2, 2011 at his home.

Bud was born January 2, 1933 to Hubert S. and Helen E. ``Ella' (Hout) Livers. Bud was the last surviving and youngest sibling of his family that included one brother and three sisters. Bud served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. Bud loved a good polka and met his wife Rita (Ruhmanseder) at the Jednota Club. They married on April 21, 1956. Together they raised eight children. Bud was a parishioner of Annunciation, St. Martha's, St. Hedwig's, St. Mary's and recently St. Sebastian's Catholic Church. Bud worked two jobs to support his family. He retired from General Tire in 1984 and was behind the counter Monday through Thursday nights at ``A Gild Pizza' from 1961 until retiring in 1994.

He was preceded in death by his brother John M. ``Jack'; sisters, Helen (Pendleton), Margaret (Kibler), Josephine; and nephews, Peter Kibler and Guy Pendleton; sisters-in-law, Nora Gild, Josephine Ruhmanseder and Mary Louise ``Tookie' Livers; brothers-in-law, Dale Pendleton, Larry Kibler; and long time friends, Marie and John Petrucelli and Dick Justice. Surviving are his wife, Rita; children, Christine Grajczyk (Alan), John (Brenda), Hubert ``Bud', Rita Byron (Chuck), Susan Hornyak (Steve), James (Kim), Helen Robertson and Edward. He also leaves behind 16 grandchildren, Monica, Matthew, Laura, Carol, Linda, Karen, Jacob, Theresa, Jared, Rachel, Michael, Lydia, Samantha, Leah, Daniel, and Paul. Also surviving are his sister-in-law, Peg Ruhmanseder; brother-in-law, Abe Gild; and special cousin, Mary Kovach. Bud was very fond of his many nieces and nephews and Bud appreciated his special friends Bob and Laura Lea Frank and Joyce Justice. The family would like to thank the health care doctors, nurses and support staff who gave Bud extraordinary care.

Calling hours will be on Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Dunn-Quigley Funeral Home (811 Grant St.), where the Rosary will be recited at 8 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be on Friday at 11 a.m. at St. Sebastian Catholic Church, followed by interment at Holy Cross Cemetery. For those who wish, memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Visiting Nurse Service.

I can't believe Bud has been gone for eight years. I still think back to the good/bad years on Hammel Street. My son, David, passed by 634 Hammel Street every day for two years while taking his son, Jack, to Hoban. Jack is now a freshman at John Carroll. My how time flies. Every time I pass the house on Howard street I think about Rita and Bud. Memories are what keeps our minds active. I'll be 85 this year and where did all the years go? The whole Samuelson Family - Rosalyn, Paul, Joyce and Paul Medkeff, Neil and Joan Samuelson and Garey are gone, but not forgotten!

I'll never forget the great parties we had. The million kids between the Livers, the Franks, and the Justices running all over! I wish I had a copy of the "styrofoam cooler killer" shirt he wore to one of the parties. That story got plenty mileage. I still smile thinking about it. He was always able to laugh and laugh at himself. What a great guy.

To The Liver's Family
Judy Samuelson's entry in the guest book sure brought back memories for my family who also grew on Hammel St. and loved Buddy and his ability to do almost anything from sandlot football, basketball and of course baseball (with a tennis ball). He was a good friend who will always be remembered by me and my family. If only we could roll up the rug and turn on Polka music on Sundays again.
May God bless the Liver's family. Jerry Gaydash and family

I was saddened to hear of the loss of Mr. Livers. He was such a genuine, friendly guy with a great sense of humor. We grew up in a great neighborhood with so many fond memories that included the Liver’s family. Bud always treated Mike and I like we were part of that family. What a great neighbor and friend. My deepest sympathy to Mrs. Livers and the entire family.

My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family and also Chuck and the girls. I know it has been a while Rita but I do remember the Aetna days. Please give me a call if you need anything.

It was important to Dad to be friendly, hospitable and make people comfortable when in contact with him or our family. He raised his family to do the same. He liked to tell a good joke or funny story. One of Dad’s favorite songs was by Nat King Cole, “Unforgettable”. Dad/Bud will be unforgettable and always loved.

My in-laws, Paul and Rosalyn Samuelson, lived next door to the Liver's family on Hammel Street. I married Garey and I can still hear/see all the stories about Bud, Jimmy Seibert and neighbors. They grew up in a wonderful neighborhood, had lots of fun (good and bad) and all turned out to be responsible, fine adults. The Liver's left the neighborhood when their house was moved for the interbelt/expresway system that was constructed and I can still hear my father-in-law saying "if they would have taken one more house (634 Hammel St) we could move, but they left their house which is still there today.

My deepest sympathy to Rita and her family.
