Hello,
I just wanted to say "Hi" and I love all of you. Baba Opio is my God-father and I will miss him dearly. I do everything in my power to achieve my goals and be the best at whatever I do. I know how much he spoke up for "us" and that itself gave me the strengh to keep pushing... He always told me "be strong God-daughter and you will make it though." One more thing..."Baba Opio will you say hello to Baba Wayne, tell him I love him also and I will miss him dearly." 12-16-08

Dear Linda, Jelani and Jabari,
Opio was a dear friend to me in the Legislature. I was privelged to be his deskmate for ten of my eleven years in the House. Opio was one of the most honorable and wisest men I have ever known. He was selfless and courageous in representing his constituency. Opio was one of the most elequent and passionate speakers in the entire Legislature. I admired him very much and I will miss him greatly. You, his family, were his pride and joy. We often spoke about his boys and mine.
We had a tradition once every session to have a "cream soda" on the floor of the House. I cherish those moments. Although Opio was small in stature, he was a giant among men.
I am so deeply sorry for your loss, but I hope you will take comfort in knowing that he is in the arms of Jesus and suffers no more. God bless you. Dale

I had the good fortune to meet Opio when he was a student at Langston and I was a reporter covering the state capitol. It was obvious then that he was destined for greatness.

As we were the same age, I watched his growth and his dedication to the people throughout the years he represented his district in the legislature. It made me proud to have had a chance to know him.

I am saddened by his early departure, but uplifted by the knowledge that he will have a special place in the hearts and minds of those who believe in liberty and justice for ALL people.

The Honorable Dr. Opio Toure, May our Savior and merciful Lord Jesus Christ continue to watch over you and your anointed family. Although you will be truly missed your legacy and ministry will continue to go forward. Early Monday morning at 2:00am on February 4th, we could imagine Jesus saying to you "Come, you blessed of My Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world." May you, your family and all that loved you find comfort in these words found in Matthew 25:34. We will miss you on the hill of dear Langston and the world has lost, but God has gained another human and civil rights champion in Heaven. May you rest in God's peace and your family remain in His grip. God Bless you and yours our dear friend.

To Opio's family,

I was saddened to hear the news. I worked with Opio for several years and though our paths diverged and I saw Opio too rarely, whenever we did run into each other at the capitol, I greatly enjoyed seeing him and catching up on the news. I shall always remember his big smile at those times. I had always hoped there would be occasion to get together and talk more. I am afraid that will now have to wait until we meet again in glory.

My thoughts and prayers are for you, Linda, and your sons. May God's grace prove sufficient to comfort you through this valley of sorrow and troubles.

Dear Opio

It seems just like yesterday that we sat and talked. I will always remember your energy and tenacity from high school in Muskogee through your years at the state capitol. You helped so very many people by being a trailblazer and fighting for the rights of the disenfranchised. I thank you again and again for all you did to open the doors of forgiveness and second chances for multitudes still to come. It was and always will be an honor to have shared time, conversation and the fight for the rights of ALL people with you. God Bless You. I will keep your family in my prayers. Until we meet again.

Opio was a very compassionate person. His most recent concern was for the well being of African-American males. He was very cognizant of the detailed statistics on the African-American male's demise. However, he wanted to do something about it rather than continue the conversation. It would be fitting for those of us who have the same passions to come together and follow what he wanted to do.

To the family of Brother Toure: It is difficult to find the words that could help ease your pain and provide you with comfort. Know that your loved one was very special and loved by so many. He was such an awesome supporter of the Brotherhood's Boys Club. Last year he attended my elder son's Promotion ceremony and assisted with the presentations. It was a very proud day for my child. I also remember and was touched at how patient and kind he was to my little one who was 3 at the time and just had to sit next to the man with the "rainbow" hat. Mr. Toure clearly did not feel well, yet was so patient and answered all a toddler's endless questions.Please know that our prayers and thoughts are with you. God Bless.

To the family of Bro. Opio Toure. God bless all of you. God sends His children to bless others on the earth and then He calls them back to Himself when their work is done. The work that Bro. Opio has done will "speak for him" for generations to come on into eternity. He blessed us all. Bro. Opio and I have the same "roots" in Boynton, Oklahoma. His grandmother, Mrs. Nevins, was my first Sunday school teacher. When you don't understand God's ways or His timing, read Det. 29:29.

Therefore you now have sorrow; but I will see you again and your heart will rejoice, and your joy no one will take from you. (John 16:22)

To Dr. Toure and Family
My Heart goes out to you in this time of great sorrow and pain. But we know that this is just for a little while. Soon your tears and sorrow will turn to joy and laughter as you focus on the wonderful memories that you shared with him as a loving husband and a caring father. He was a great man with a kind heart. We know that Heaven is just a whisper away and at this very moment Opio is in the arms of the LORD. If we listen very carefully, we can hear the LORD say, "Welcome Home My Child of GOD, Welcome Home.

Noone over the last 25 years has done more for his race or poor people in general than Opio. Opio"s legacy will live long after Oklahoma celebrates its next 100 years. Mr. Toure was my great teacher, a personal encouragement and support.

When someone we love passes away,
We ache, but we go on;
Our dear departed would want us to heal,
After they are gone.

Grief is a normal way to mend
The anguish and pain in our hearts;
We need time to remember and time to mourn,
Before the recovery starts.

Let's draw together to recuperate,
As we go throught this period of sorrow;
Let's help each other, with tender care
To find a brighter tomorrow.
