Nancy Polte Obituary

Polte, Nancy Jean December 31, 1930-February 17, 2011 Nancy was born in Hollywood, CA. to Don and Ruth Munger on December 31, 1930. The family moved to Yorba Linda in 1931. Nancy was raised and went to elementary school in Yorba Linda. She graduated from Fullerton High School in 1948.. .the same High School her parents attended 25 years prior. Nancy met her future husband, Ernest A. Polte, while enrolled at Fullerton Junior College in the fall of 1948. After Ernie graduated from Stanford University they were married in June, 1951. This was soon followed by the births of 3 sons, Larry, John and Jeff. The Polte family moved from Fullerton back to Yorba Linda in 1961. After Ernie's successful teaching/coaching career (Water Polo and Swimming) at Fullerton Junior College, Nancy and Ernie eventually moved to San Clemente in 1992. Retirement life was good until Nancy was first diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease 10 years ago. Despite her gradual physical decline caused by this insidious disease, Nancy maintained an inner strength and dignity of spirit until her final day on February 17, 2011. Nancy is survived by her husband, Ernie (of almost 60 years) and by her 3 sons, Larry (and wife Joy) of Placerville, CA., John of San Clemente, and Jeff (and wife Robin) of Pt. Hueneme, CA. Nancy is also survived by her sister, Joyce Smith, her nephew, Brad, her niece Beverly, 7 grandchildren, and 3 great-grandchildren. Nancy Jean Polte's primary goal in life was to be the best mother and wife she could be. She succeeded! She taught us to sing, to dance, to laugh, and to fully appreciate the beautiful, simple things in life. Nancy was a gifted artist and seamstress. She gave her all and asked for little in return.. .She was the "wind beneath our wings." Nancy will be dearly missed by all those who knew her. Services were held in San Clemente on February 20, 2011. Lesneski Mortuary

March 4, 2011

It is with great sadness that I read the obituary for Nancy Munger Polte. I began kindergarten with Nancy in 1935 at the Yorba Linda Grammar School, and we were classmates until high school graduation in 1948. My father, Valdo Y. Smith, and Nancy's mother Ruth served together on the Yorba Linda Library Board for a couple of decades. I remember Nancy as a quiet, sweet girl in grade school. I carry the memory of parties at her parents' home when we were 12 and 13 years of age. I think there was an enclosed patio at the house, set back in the orange grove, and as shy country children we tried to learn to dance. Memory can be untrustworthy, but I believe there were records with the music, "Sentimental Journey", "Stardust" - maybe some Sinatra, and I recall dancing with Nancy. I look back on our childhood at that time and place as almost idyllic, and remember the people and that little town always.
My wife, Janey, and I send our heartfelt condolences to Nancy's family.

I was so sorry to read of Nancy's passing. My daughter, Vicki Keeran, dated Larry in high school, and my other daughter, Karen Keeran Green dated Jeff. Vicki passed away Feb. 20, 2011. She had Parkinson's Disease for 32 years. A terrible disease. I'm so sorry for your loss.
Sincerely, Elizabeth (Keeran) Bewley
