Charles Hupp Obituary

CHARLES MASON HUPP
1986-2008

Charles Mason Hupp, born June 9, 1986, passed away May 27, 2008.
Mason was a local native born and raised in Fort Walton Beach. He attended Ocean City Elementary School, Pryor Middle School and graduated from Choctawhatchee High School, May 2004.
Mason began playing soccer with Jim Kane and Craig Wallace at the ripe old age of 3 and never stopped playing. He moved up through his soccer carrier playing with the WAVE soccer league for Tim Fulmer, winning the prestigious President's Cup in back to back years. He then played with the Mutiny Soccer Club for John Brashears where they excelled and won many local tournaments. He then moved onto play with the Cocoa Expos U18 development league under Gerry Queen and Jim McGrory, where they won the national U18 tournament in Indianapolis, IN.
This brought our son to graduate high school, where he played four years as a starter under Jim Kane and Craig Wallace, ending his senior season as NW Florida Daily News Player of the year. Immediately following high school Mason went onto the Premier Development League @ the Expo in Cocoa for 3 more seasons under Gerry Queen.
He was honored with a scholarship to the University of West Florida where he played under Bill Elliot and continued to excel for the past 4 seasons being a contributor to the team's success in the NCAA Division II final four.
Mason was the light of his parents, grandparents and siblings life. He was a friend to all whom he met and extended his kindness to everyone. He will be missed by many on the soccer field and off. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother Karen York; his maternal grandfather, Charles Leight; his paternal great-grandmother Louise Wood and by his paternal great-grandfather Walter Mason Hupp. Mason was named after both of his grandfathers.
He leaves behind his mother and father, Lori and Pat; his brother, Tyler Simmons, his sister, Sabrina "Breezy"; his beloved "G-ma", L. Patricia Hupp, grandfather Jack Mason "Rabbit" Hupp; Uncle and Aunt, Jack M. and Vicki Hupp; Uncle Michael Hupp; Cousins Mark Hupp and Michelle Hupp, and lastly, his good friend Liz Greene, his buddy Sam Durben and man's best friend, his dog, Bailey and many UWF, Choctaw, Expo teammates.
Visitation will be from 5 - 7 PM Friday at Emerald Coast Funeral Home, 113 Racetrack Rd. N..E., Fort Walton Beach.
Funeral Services will take place at 11:00 AM on Saturday at Emerald Coast Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Ray Angerman officiating. Committal services and burial will follow at Beal Memorial Cemetery in Fort Walton Beach.

I would like to express our deepest sympathy from the UWF Athletic Department. To the Hupp family, I hope that you will continue to be a part of the Argonaut family. The field will never be taken without Mason beside us. I have been reflecting these past few weeks on the person we know as Mason Hupp. I have never known anyone that could brighten a room the way he did. Mason had this special way of making everyone he came into contact with feel special. I have thousands of memorable moments with Mason however two of my favorites are the day he bit my finger nail off "just to see if he could" and getting pedicures on roadtrips. Mason was one of the first players I met at UWF, one of my very favorites and will never be replaced! Mason, you will never leave our hearts. Go Argos!!

MA-SON!!!
i got to spend 17 years of my life with you. Following in your footsteps, it was the best 17 years of my life. You were my older brother, my best friend, and basically my twin. Yes, we fought ALL the time, but i knew you always loved me. We would say mean things to each other and i would usually lose, but always when we talked about each other to other people.. we would always say GREAT and AMAZING things. You will greatly be missed. Not a day will go by that im not crying and thinking about our times we've got to spend together. Im so lucky to have a brother like you!! I love you Mommy and Daddy.. I will carry on the name and legacy!!

From our family to yours, we are truly sorry about the lose of Mason. He sure knew how to make those tournaments for the Expo fun all the way up to Nationals. He was great to watch on the field and fun to have around after. I am sure him and Stevie have a great team going on. Mason will be missed by many.

Dear Lori, Pat, Breezy, Tyler and all of Mason's family:
We will remember Mason, and all the fun we all used to share playing on the Cocoa Expos team, and all the fun we had when we went to Nationals. Mason was always ready for anything and always kept everyone laughing and on their toes. Too many great times! We love all of you and you are in our thoughts and prayers everyday. My brother and I had the pleasure of growing up with and hanging out with Mason from a young age. It's so shocking that such a vibrant and amazing person with his potential has been taken away from us all so suddenly. Mason, as all of us know, could light up a room and make you laugh like no other. His energy and spirit are irreplaceable. Mason; we love you and we extend our prayers to your family and everyone else affected by this tragic loss.

Kayla Jackson was one of my best friends and a great friend with Mason Hupp. She talked much about him and how great of a person he was. I met him when he came to our apt and when I went with Kayla to his house in Pensacola for her to try and find a place to rent out. I have never met such a caring wonderful guy, he made the atmosphere that more inviting. Mason, you are wonderful and you are in gods hands now. We all love you regardless and we will all miss you. God Bless.

Pat and Lori
Our hearts are breaking for you and your family. Mason was a wonderful loving child and grew to be more amazing as a young man. I can still hear him ask my mother "Ms Sally would you like me to cut your grass" he was no bigger than the lawnmower it self, but he mowed it anyway. He was the product of two wonderful parents who always gave him love and encouragement and who I am so grateful to have living next door to my mother. May god bless you all.

I met Mason at Cocoa Expo in 2003 while he was attending the Cocoa Expo summer soccer camp. From that day on our soccer team got what we were always missing. A young man who not only could play soccer but who could light up a room with his smile. So many times coach Gerry Queen and myself would tell Mason to do something on the field and he would do the opposite and his way always ended up been better. Mason was so committed to soccer it was not unusal for him to make the 8 hour journey from Fort Walton to Cocoa for just 1 game on the week-end but that was Mason. To anyone who never had the pleasure of meeting Mason you don't what you missed and for those of us who did our lives will have changed for ever. Mason you have made all of us so incredible proud to have been in your company, I know you are now in heaven teaching eveyone the game you loved so much. God bless you and your family you were truly a great kid.

I know it's cliché, but in this case it's true - Mason truly had the unique ability to light up any room. I think every gymnast and cheerleader at Emerald City had a crush on him! There were plenty of times my girls would say they were tired midway through class - but then Mason would drop into the gym and they magically got their energy back! You are all an amazing family, and you've been in my prayers. I love you all.

Mason has been to our home many times - always helping; putting up fence, fixing the roof after Dennis, and lastly bringing a sweet puppy (Molly) to our children Grace and Aidan. They adored Mason (he gave Aidan the nickname "Wee-Man") and will take good care of the puppy he gave them! Our hearts are broken...

I only knew Mason for a short time through his work at the L.C. He was always such an upbeat and endearing young man. He had a penchant, as do I, for the Florida lottery scratch off games. He always told me what he'd won, and I always told him what I'd lost. I have missed seeing him this past week, as I'm sure a lot of the customers at the L.C. have. Mason touched everyone's heart, and I consider myself fortunate to have known him, even for such a short time.
