Dear Wright Family,
I was so sad to hear of Steve's passing. He was truly a great man and helped my family out on several occasions. For him, being an attorney wasn't about getting paid up front, it was helping people.
He was a great human being and will be sorely missed by everyone who knew him.

Dear Rita & Family,
Steve gave his all for so many, and in so many ways in our community. The truth of God's mysterious ways is so evident as there remains a continued need in this world for men like Steve, with the gift to communicate his knowledge, the passion to fight for what is right, and his generous and compassionate heart.
I will remember Steve as I last saw him. Eyes lit up, in a great mood, holding a huge bouquet of yellow roses, excited to go home, because it was your birthday, Rita. The yellow rose is for friendship. Steve knew where his treasure lay. And that is for forever.
Always, Laura Crafts

Dearest Cousin Steven... What a loss to his family and our larger Wright family clan. Although, we are spread far and wide, we maintain a bond that springs from our parents' early struggles and ultimate successes. I know that his father and two aunts were so proud of his good life. We all strive for that, and Steve did the good work. God bless Steve. You join our clan on the other side and are in good company. Dear Rita and family, I hope when you pass through the great sorrows of loss that you can rejoice in the life he led with pride and comfort.

Rita and family, we are so very sorry for your loss. I first met Steve over 37 years ago as we were Scotts Valley little league coaches. As we got to know each other we realized that we probablly played hardball against each other when we were in college. Thru the years Steve was always there for me and my family. I came to know Steve very well in the 1990s. We had so much fun and good times with our group of denizens. Eventually, Steve was one of the main reasons I applied to law school. Steve wrote my referral letter. Now I am a lawyer and practice defense as well. I ran into Steve a couple years ago in my neck of the woods. Of course, he had a great joke to tell me. One of Steve's favorite songs was "Strokin"- it still craps me up when I think of how he did I wild dance to that song.
I am so saddened by his passing.

As a fellow La Madrona family I am saddened by the news of Steve's passing.
Many a story watching the kids at baseball & soccer. Although Steve loved the Dodgers I think he would have been proud of the Giants this year. I remember Steve telling me how he got Tommy Lasorda to call his father on his birthday and wish him a happy birthday. Steve I've got a tear in my eye thinking about you. We sure had fun in little league and soccer.

Dear Rita & Family,
I am shocked and so sorry to learn of the passing of Steve. My prayers and positive thoughts are with and for you.
Steve was an inspiration to me in many ways. Always encouraging, giving that aire of constant resilience, motivating and mentoring those he came in contact with, whether they were on the same page or not. I count him as one the professional professionals in the legal field. His idealism and defense of the Constitutional rights of others are rarely demonstrated in the way Steve did so.
May that mystery of peace be upon you and yours.

I first met Steve over 30 years ago when I transferred to the Santa Cruz Police Department from the Santa Clara County Sheriff's Department. I am deeply saddened to hear of his passing away. Although we were often on opposite sides of the courtroom, Steve always treated me with respect.
I will miss his friendship, even though I moved to Montana after my retirement from the Santa Cruz County Sheriff's Office in 2004. God Bless his family.

Steve was a very close friend. I have many memories of him. He had many excellent qualities; the one I admired the most, however, was his willingness to be independent and stand up when it was not easy to do so. He had courage.
We spent a lot of late nights in close quarters during the 15 years we shared an office suite. He was like an older brother to me, and I will always remember him as such. He will live as an inspiration to me, to his family-- Rita, Alison, Stacie, Spencer, Davis and Kelsey--and the community at large. He touched so many people.
I will miss him very much.

Steve was very talented and committed attorney. I always hated the fact that I would tell Steve a half decent joke one day and then, the next day, hear him tell the joke which was now phenomenal.
A good sense of humor is essential for those of us who do Criminal defense work. Steve was able, thru humor, to renovate our spirit.

As someone who covered the courts in Santa Cruz County for many years for the daily newspaper, I appreciated Mr. Wright's intelligence, patience and most of all, his quick wit in a setting where a sense of humor helped all working there keep touch their humanity and sanity. My favorite Steve Wright line comes from a visit to his office in the 90s where the hard-working attorney had a family portrait displayed: He, his wife, and their five children. "I keep that here to prove to people that I do go home sometimes," he said.
Very sorry to hear of his passing and sincere condolences to family.

Dear Wright Family,
I drove in to work with a heavy heart today knowing that a local champion of justice and a personal mentor had passed. Steve was simply the best when it came to understanding and conveying his clients' sympathetic hardships and potential for positive change. His fondness for humor made it a little easier for all of us to do a difficult job. He will be deeply missed, but never forgotten. R.I.P. Steve...

To Steve Wright's family. Please know that he was loved dearly by all of us musicians who supported him in both of his runs for judgeship. I was very sorry to read about Steve's passing. Steve was a very kind and giving person. When my family needed assistance Steve was there for us. I will always remember him. Steve quarterbacked our football team which comprised of mostly police officers which showed how much we liked and respected him. It is not often that police officers and defense attorneys get together but Steve was the exception to the rule.
Our prayers are with his family and thanks Steve for being a friend.
