Loretta Darling Obituary

On Monday, March 14, 2011, Loretta J. Darling (nee Lacina) entered peacefully into eternal rest. Born Feb. 27, 1922 in Union City, N.J., Loretta had just celebrated her 89th birthday at their home in Manchester, N.J. She was retired from government civil service, where she worked as a bookkeeper, initially in Washington, D.C., and then later at Picatinny Arsenal. Formerly of Sussex County, Loretta lived in Somerset- Hunterdon counties for the past 15 years. She served society for most of her retired life: as a teachers' aide in the Sussex Wantage Elementary School, in the Sussex County Head Start program and, later, with her husband, as foster grandparents in the Hunterdon Developmental Center for nearly eight years. She was a member of the Branchburg Seniors. Loretta was predeceased by her father, Joseph Lacina; mother, Loretta Steihler Lacina, and brother, Joseph Lacina. She is survived by her husband, Richard H. Darling, in Manchester, and sister Dolores Berg of Englishtown, N.J. She leaves five children, Loretta Darling Nicola and husband, George C. Nicola; Richard Darling Jr. and wife, Lois Dobron; David Darling and wife, Maria Gal Vieira; Donald Darling and wife, Nang Inthanai, and Robert Darling. She had nine grandchildren, Rebecca, Miranda, Emily, Lewis, Fernanda, Louis Carlos, Sara, Jennifer, and Donna, and two great-grandchildren, Bianca and Brianna. Loretta is loved and fondly remembered by many and is hereby honored by fellow government employees with this obituary.
