Amy and Brad,
This is the time of year I think of Brenda and we would get together. As a parting gift from Apple Valley HS, she gave me a Bleeding Heart plant. Any one who knew her understands the poetry in that...
Just thought you might like to know, it flourishes. It is huge, laden with blossoms. Just as we might expect.

I am just finding out today about Dr. Cumming's passing. She supervised my practicum at Apple Valley High. I think of her wisdom and grace so often. She was one of the most compassionate, sincere people I have ever met. I am so glad to have known her. Amy, Brad, Sophie, and Dillon, she talked of you constantly. I loved to hear her stories about her family. She was so proud of you! My deepest sympathies.

Dear Brad and Amy,

In my mind, your Mom will always be vital and alive. My grad school compatriot and a friend since you first moved to Minnesota. I have such fond memories of life in the little house you first lived in. Dana called me last night to chat and told me that Brenda was gone and I am stunned. Way too young. I'd been out of touch since my last visit to Minnesota and had no clue she was even ill. I am so sad and absolutely heartbroken for you. Sending you my love and thoughts. She will live forever in our memories.

Brenda was the charm everyone remembers from high school - a special girl who always had a smile on her face and made you feel you were the most important person in her life. Although we had not stayed in touch since high school, we had plans to get-together a day before the reunion to catch up. My thoughts and prayers go to her wonderful family. I will think of Brenda often -- especially at the reunion. What a loss!

I will miss Brenda very much. She often fed me when I was in law school, encouraged me when I had doubt, told me jokes when I wanted to cry, and got down on the floor and played with my kid, when she saw my energy was depleted. She was one of the most selfless, kind-hearted, talented and intelligent women I ever met. The world was a better place with her in it. I offer my deepest condolences to her family and friends.

Dear Friend,
my heart and my soul are crying and now alone!
You were my little sunshine when I came from France.
I remember that you were the first person I wanted to see after being in Minneapolis.
You brought me non vegetarian food all the time.
You will be always in my heart and when I will cross your empty house, I know that I will cry...
During this Ramadan period, be sure that I will pray for you and your family.
I will always love you; you and your family.
My spirit is next to you

I had been thinking of Brenda intensely for several days so picked up the phone and called in late July -- to get the latest update on her life. She was looking forward to the 50th reunion and I was looking forward to spending time with her. We were not in touch much over the past years, but we were always on each others minds....even at the end. I have only wonderful memories of our early years.

Knowing Brenda from shared time at Crawford High, I remember two unforgettable qualities she shared. She had a smile for everyone that was genuine and infectious. As an incoming Sophomore to her lofty standing as a highly regarded Senior, she was always gracious, friendly and inclusive toward me. In those fragile teen years, that ranked mighty high and was a true mark of her caring spirit.

Brenda was one of my favorite people in high school. I saw her at our last high school class reunion which was probably the 40th. She still looked so young and it was such a joy to see her again. She radiated goodness and kindness, and I'm very sad that she won't be at the 50th reunion in a couple of months.

She was truly an inspiration to her students and I will always remember her compassionate and bold spirit. Brenda, We will miss you. It was a blessing to have her as a teacher, mentor, and friend. A year with her at Apple Valley High School was a joyous encyclopedic tour of the King's English, food, psychology, wit, true caring, and her exceptionally gracious manner. She will be missed beyond measure. Farewell Brenda.

Well, dear friend, how rapidly you left us behind. As in life, you raced toward death with breathtaking swiftness and efficiency. How clever of us to grab the chance to be bask in your friendship and wisdom one last time. How sad for us to have to say, "one last time." Thank you for your legacy, Brenda - your children, your students, your little hand-made gifts. Most of all, thanks for being a dear friend.

To Amy, Brad, Sophie and Dillon,

We are so sad to hear about the loss of Brenda and so quickly after your trip. This is just another loss of family for us too. Our thoughts are with you during this time and we are so sorry that we can't get back for the memorial service. We were so lucky to see her in May and talk with her just 5 days before her death. You will always remain family to us. Love, Jan and Sharon
