Susan Michelle "Susie" Cella

Susan Cella Obituary

Susan “Susie” Michelle (Smith) Cella, 55, passed away on Friday, July 29, 2011.

Susie was born and raised in San Diego, California, and earned a BA and MBA from San Diego State University. After a successful, ten-year career in banking with Bank of America in San Diego, she met and married her husband, Michael Joseph Cella, with whom she had four wonderful children; Sarah Jane, Christopher Michael, Katherine “Kate” Rose and Timothy Joseph.

She brought her California spirit east in 1995 when she moved with her family from San Diego to Wilton, Connecticut. She poured her heart and soul into nurturing her family and many children in the community through active engagement in her children''s lives, and perennial leadership in programs sponsored by the Wilton Public Schools'' PTA and the Wilton Congregational Church.

In addition to her husband and children, Susie is survived by her sister, Judy “Elle” Wright, as well as many in-laws, cousins, nephews and nieces. Her survivors and the countless friends of her children, who adopted her as their second mother, remember her for her tremendous zest for life, her very genuine love and affection, and her generosity of spirit.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 6th at 11 a.m. at the Wilton Congregational Church. There will be a reception hosted by the Board of Deacons immediately following the service.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Wilton Congregational Church Susie Cella Memorial Fund.

What a privilege to be reminded of those qualities and pay tribute to her by polishing them a bit more in our own lives. I wish for her family peace and comfort.

I was so saddened to hear of Susie's passing. Our daughters Sarah and Meghan are the dearest of friends, from BU. I first met Susie in the girl's freshman dorm room. What a beautiful, ball of energy. While we were both nervous about leaving our girls, she still exuded such a positive and cheerful attitude. I was so impressed with the way she approached life. I am blessed to have met her, as my daughter is blessed to have Sarah as a best friend and to be a part of such a delightful family. Susie, Mike and the rest of the family provided that warmth. With sincere sympathy, Kelly McMahon (Meghan Behnke's mother).

Dear Cella Family,
I am so sorry to hear of the passing of your very special, mother. After having three Cella children in my classroom, Kate, Sarah and Tim, and having Susie as a room mother all three times, I feel that I am privileged to have known such a lovely and caring woman. She loved her children with all her heart and she was so proud of all of you! The door to my classroom is always open to you if you would like to visit or share some memories. Unfortunately, I will be away for the services this Saturday, so I hope to catch up with you all soon. There were many good times had in fifth grade and when you are ready, we can sit and talk about them. I wish you all the very best and I will greatly miss Susie.
Respectfully,
Mr. Tim gallo
