Donna Stecker Obituary

DONNA JEAN SPENGER STECKER  (Age 68)
Of Springfield, VA, passed peacefully at home on December 15, 2010, surrounded by her loving family. Donna was an amazing mother, active grandmother and faithful friend. She was born on September 26, 1942 in Johnstown, PA to Anthony and Hilda Spenger. Donna is survived by daughters, Laura Armati and Jennifer Stecker and son-in-law, John Armati. She is also survived by her six grandchildren, Paul, Andrew, Will, Jacob, Kieran, and Quinn. She was a dear sister to Mary Antoinette, Agnes, Sister Terence OSF, and Charlene; as well as a cherished friend to the many people whose lives she touched. Donna worked for the U.S. Government, Diocese of Arlington and most recently as a Master Gardener at Green Spring Gardens in Alexandria, VA. She will be missed greatly but her kind spirit, zest for life, and loving ways will keep her alive in the hearts of many. A Mass to celebrate her life will be held at the Church of the Nativity, 6400 Nativity Lane, Burke, VA on January 8, 2011 at 12 Noon. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Friends of Green Springs, c/o Donna Stecker, Green Spring Gardens, 4603 Green Spring Rd., Alexandria, VA 22312. www.fmfh.com

December 20, 2010

I am a longtime reader of the OVCA Listserve and have followed the story of Donna's noble battle. Imagine my surprise when I read her obituary in my local newspaper in Johnstown. Though she does not know me by name, I do believe I attended a luncheon this past Friday at Sunnehanna CC with Mary Antoinette, her sister, who I also remember as the organist at St. Joseph's Church. (It was a luncheon for retired teachers.)
I am 62 and if Donna attended St. Joe's, I was enough younger that I don't remember her, but what a small world.
More importantly, I am so sorry for your loss. May the support of faith, family and friends continue to help all the family through the rough times.

Trudy (Freidhoff) Swartz Johnstown, PA
